A physician from Ghana who visits the United States is still a physician, although it probably has no legal meaning here.

I don't know about you, but I legally can. Are you saying you tried to purchase a gun and were denied?

I thought I already answered that. Yes he is a doctor.Dexdahex wrote:That is true, however is he not a Doctor...It is a basic point I'm asking I am not asking if he can practice there, just is he a DoctorWildBill wrote:Can a doctor from Texas legally bring a bag of controlled drugs into Oklahoma? Just because you have a plastic card that says Texas CHL doesn't mean that your carry privileges transfer to another state.

I suspect that part of the problem here is that, in the case of a doctor or lawyer, the licensing is not so much to be one, but to establish oneself in the business of being one within the state. i.e. you can technically be one wihtout jumping through the last couple of hoops to practice as one, though how you'll pay off the student loans at that point is an interesting question.Dexdahex wrote:If you are a; Doctor or Lawyer, Goverment offical, member of the House or Senate... Here's the question when you enter a different area ie State, District etc... does you status level change or come into question ie is a Doctor not a Doctor here, etc...assuming the training took place here in the USA.
Requiring a license to be a government official isn't such a bad idea, though.
Re: Questioning what things stand for?
If you move there, I think Heller has made that clear. But, if you are traveling through, I'm not sure, but I think all states say you can have it, but determine how you can have it. Am I close guys?

If someone is Roman Catholic in Texas, they're still Roman Catholic if they go to New York, and they don't need a permit from the state or federal government to exercise their religious freedom. Not even if they want to wear a Saint Christopher medal when traveling.
But what's the connection between education/career and unalienable civil rights?

I work with Physisists, Biologists, PhD Doctorate types. Their title will forever be Doctor or Dr. No matter where they travel, the acceptable term of address is Dr. LaserTex, or whatever.
A Medical Doctor, MD, has still completed the requirements to have the title of Doctor or Dr. Wherever they go, they are a Doctor. They are not allowed to practice medicine except where they are licensed, but their title is still Doctor.
A CHL in Texas allows you to carry concealed in Texas (within the law). Some states have agreed that the training and requirements that you completed in Texas is good enough for you to carry in that state too. You CHL does not allow you to have your gun in Chicago. Only criminals can have guns in Chicago because the mob doesn't want the competition.
Did that even come close to hitting your question?

Re: Questioning what things stand for?
Being something (Doctor), Owning something (Gun) and having the right to do something (CHL) are three different things (apples, oranges, and peaches). A doctor is a doctor wherever he goes. That was conferred on him by education and training. Despite popular beliefs he doesn't get stupid just by crossing the border into OK. Owning something is allowed by law which CAN vary from state to state. Owning pot is ok for medicinal purposes in some states (CA), but not in others (TX). This is a states rights issue. As far as I know no states actually ban all guns. Some states make you jump through hoops to own a gun though (NY, CA etc.). Having a right is bestowed upon one. Some rights are God given, some are bestowed by the federal government and some are bestowed by states. Rights are based on a belief system. Rights are constantly under attack and somebody is constantly trying to take rights away from others because they do not agree with those rights (different belief system). This has gone on since the beginning of time and will probably continue until man is no longer around. But hey, I could be wrong.
