Will "snake shot" pistol ammo cycle a semi-auto OK?

I shot a couple of .22 mag shotshells in my NAA Minimaster (4" barrel) and was surprised how tight the pattern was. At approx 15-ft it was the size of a paper plate and reasonably dense.

I've tried the CCI shotshells in .22, .40 and .45 SA's ...
I never had on cycle the action ...
Nailed a snake at about 10 feet with a .22 ... The way he went down I think one pellet at least hit his head.
Demonstrated the .40 version in a Personal Protection Inside the Home class a couple years ago, and past about 10 feet it would have to be a very lucky shot to do any significant damage -- maybe in the eye. If it didn't scare the BG enough, it would probably just make him/her mad.

I could never get snakeshot to cycle my XD9. The first shot always went off fine, but then would stovepipe.

I had a 1911 years ago, and used it with some 'rat shot' as it's called where I was from. It jammed on me with every shot. But I used rat shot in a .22 rifle, and it never did. I used it to clear mice from the barn. It was a lot of fun.
