In this case, a wealthy family was the target of a police raid in which the husband was killed. The police were looking for drugs. Among the "evidence" that police claimed was the fact that the wife had been seen with $100 bills.

No drugs were found. No law enforcement personnel were prosecuted or disciplined as far as I know.

This was the first of a quarter-million links in a Google search for "asset forfeiture abuse": http://www.google.com/search?q=asset+forfeiture+abuse" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

What encourages some of these agencies is that they are often allowed to keep the money themselves instead of the money going into a general fund. These moneys are often used to buy toys like boats armered vehicles and such.

Y'all should try to go and read Matthew Bracken's second book in the Enemies series...It has some very interesting asset seizure sub-plots...

Forgive me if the info is listed in 1 or more of the above links.
Speculation about why they seized the super hacker's Glock may be related to his
previous legal problems, which may have branded him as a felon.

Felons can't have guns.

Prior to his most recent arrest he had been indicted in Massachusetts, NY, and NJ
for credit card hacking. The FBI knew he was a computer genius and cut a deal with
him which kept him out of prison while he helped them net other hackers. But he was
still committing crimes although he had been able to get a "get out of jail free" card.

He was associated with Russian or other East Bloc mafia guys. He may have needed the
Glock for protection from them if they were ever busted due to his working with the FBI.

If that person was comitting a felony then its a good law.

Had scumbag drug dealears living next to me, that law guaranteed that I would not have scum bag drug dealers living next to me for a long time.
