Wow. I thought that fences made for good neighbors. I am desolate in my ignorance.

Only if they are high enough not to be climbed over.

Actually, this sounds so much like what happened to me not long ago. Some may remember my trouble with pit Bulls next door and one coming under the fence to get me while I was talking over the fence to the owner.
Fortunately for me, the dog did not come completely thru the fence and retreated before I had to draw. If he had made it thru and attacked me, I would have shot the dog and there would be a good possibility I would have to shoot the owner as well. I just got lucky and these people did not.
The neighbor here now has a electric fence wire installed in his fence at the bottom to stop them from coming under the fence.............first time that fails and no one is around, there will be less pit bulls around here.........

If that had been the case I would agree, however Ryan did not jump the fence to assault Mr Stewart, Mr Stewart invited him to come over so Mr Steward could kick his rear end. You don't invite someone to a fist fight then shoot them, thats a sure sign of a coward.
This is another prime example of how the media is terrible at reporting facts, and why people shouldnt jump to conclusions based on what limited information the media offers, as it tends to be innaccurate many times.
**edit**
Also, for those of you who are wondering, the fence in question is not your typical 6-8' tall privacy fence commonly found in suburban areas, but rather a 4 foot tall white picket type fence.
