If I recall correctly, my brother was convicted and sentenced to 2.5 years in the Federal pokey for the posession with criminal intent to establish a commercial distribution of an illegal substance...(echhhh, mouthful I know)...He has completed his punishment and is now straighter than an arrow...ehem...

Now...I believe a person is truly rehabilitated and remorseful for their crimes when they have completely divorced themselves from the lifestyle they had before they were caught...

When you do not have any contact, or business in any way, shape, or form, from those you associated with before you got caught, then to me that is a BIG step to openly demonstrate your desire to not get into trouble again...That may be hard for some to accomplish...But it can be done...

Should his right to keep and bear arms be restored??? I believe it is up to that individual to determine how bad they want it back, and are they willing to jump through the hoops and be scrutinized harder than they have ever been in the past to regain that right, per what the state feels about it...

I have his "stuff" locked up for just such a day that it is officially restored...I do not bug him about pursuing that course to get them back, so it is up to him...

In 1979 as a 20 something kid, I had a major problem with alcohol. I did some very stupid things under the influence, including stealing a car, which when caught and convicted I received a one year sentence for a 3rd degree felony, 1 year in county jail.
In 1987 I got sober and to date have remained that away for the past 22 years.
In that length of time, I have obtained and hold a Texas Real Estate Commission , Brokers license, have voted in ever local, state and federal election for the past 20 years, and have been summoned to sit on jurys, been a tax paying member of my community, and I feel , given the fact that with the exception of my gun rights being restored, it is evident the rest of my civil rights are in tact.
I have tried many avenues secure a CHL, based on the afore mentioned facts and arguments, am currently looking into it again.
I make no excuse for my behavior as a young man, but do feel that I paid my dues in full, and as a business owner, and a guy thats intrusted with handling other people's money and belongings, it is prudent that the same state that saw fit to license me for this , should see the need to license me to protect what I am representing

If you are convicted felon, then work hard to re-institute and clean your record. There is way to clean your record, no? called purging or something like that. Not sure, but I think you can petition to the governor or some authority to clean up your record. Most likely non-violent first time felon who were sent to prison may get that. Any insight on this topic?

Isn't there something in literature about "he who casts the first stone"?
