I think you said it all right there. Whatever you decide to do, do it the same way every single time so you never doubt yourself or have to take the time to see what the situation is with your weapon.

That's the one thing my husband and my instructor drilled into my head is to always carry the same every time to the point that its second nature.

Ditto on the XD40. I keep a missle in the tube, and all I have to do is grip, point and squeeze.
