Does that verbal notice override State Law allowing CHL entry into public buildings (with stated exceptions)?
that would be property owned or leased by a "governmental entity"...
which seems like about the most likely of places to have metal detectors.
In other words, no, they can't give verbal notice any more than they can post an enforceable 30.06.
Sounds like a great chance for an instant test case.
Most certainly they are going to expect you to leave if they give verbal notice!
I would kindly request that they go read Texas Penal Code, section 30.06(e), and proceed on my way into the building. What they do from that point on, would be great to have on video.

I'm still stuck on what could there possibly be in a movie theater that would require the need for these RFID towers to prevent theft of merchandise. What merchandise?

I've only been there once, but I think they have a gift shop. They probably don't want merchandise going into the theater without paying.

Okay. That's cool, but you'd expect them to be at the entrance or exits, unless of course, they are there too.

I have seen metal detectors at places where there is no reason to not carry. Can't think of a specific one at this time but I did note it at the time.
I was at the German embassy in Houston with my wife, They have metal detecters there, they also have a security guard also. I simply told the guard that i was legally carrying. They have a lock box that you put the firearm into, and pick it up on the way out, they do not handle the weapon. There were no problems.
FYI the anti theft devices are there for the 3d glasses they hand out during 3d films. I imagine it's more to just catch people unintentionally talking them out or thinking they're meant to be a free a souvenir.

We just saw Harry Potter 6 last weekend and part of it was supposed to be in 3D. We weren't given any glasses and I didn't know it ahead of time or I might have gotten some cheap ones. The last time I went to a 3D movie they were given to me with the ticket and we did get to keep them.

Sort of back on topic. I saw those things at the post office and thought they were metal detectors. I walked on past them and when they did not go off, just figured it was because I was carrying my Glock.

If you haven't seen a 3d movie there they aren't the old school red/green paper & cellophane ones you might remember. They're specially polarized hard plastic (and incompatible w/ the red/green system). I've heard they cost upwards of $50, but that was just hearsay. Regardless I'm sure they aren't cheap and it's cheaper for them to have the system to recover glasses that would otherwise just walk away.
