Welcome to Texas and the forum, Keith. I grew up just west of you a couple hundred miles in central Iowa. Like others have said, there is a lot of good info to be had here. Thanks for your service to the community. :txflag:

Welcome, Keith from another firefighter, sortof. I'm a "reserve" which is a fancy name for volunteer,
and we reserves don't fight fire any more but instead help with rehab and other non-hot-zone things.

I just got my plastic yesterday, and worry whether I can carry or not when I ride out and when I'm
at the station...

Thanks for your service!

Not very many carry . In fact can't think of any that do. Navy guy and the volunteer still brothers too me. That's one thing that firefighters have for life brotherhood. I welcome you both. Been a fireman for 15 years and that's one of the things I love about my job. As far as CHL at calls you may be able too due to civilian duty. I can't carry while on duty.

Keith:

Welcome to the forum. There are several members from your McKinney neck of the woods.

So what is your choice of firearm to carry?

I carry 3 different ones depending on my mood. Xd45 4 inch--Xd 40 in 3 sub compact inch my favorite for it's size and a Smith 1066 10mm . Bullets I use Corbon 230 grn +p--federal hydra shock 155 grn--Winchester 170 grn silver tip. All are hollow points of course.

Kieth,
From a former yankee. I moved to Texas more than 20 years ago, and don't find myself looking back at all.
Welcome aboard, I think your going to find firefighting here a bit different than it was in Chicago. At least our water supplies don't turn into ice.

Although I am Navy (not civilian), I are(gggh) a firefighter! does that count? But I guess, since I don't have my plastic, it doesn't, not really! Aw shucks! :???:

Hooyah!
I'm not saying it doesn't count, but if it did I would've had a better chance of getting into the FD after I got out of the Navy. I applied for a few different FD's that were hiring within the first 2-3 years after getting out and never even got to the interview or physical. And from what I remember one of the department's took a bank teller instead. Go figure. Oh well, everything turned out good. I guess I wasn't supposed to be a firefighter.

Really. I thought they had combined the AT and AQ rates into something. Cool.
