Bottom line is that any of those will be a reliable weapon that will serve you well for as long as you live if you take care of it. In the end, you need to decide how the subtle differences between the brands matter to you and which you prefer.

Best of luck!!

I love my M&P. I had two failures within the first magazine through; I have had zero failures in the 1400 rounds I have fired since.

I don't think you could go wrong with any of these, especially if money isn't really an issue. But for my hands, the Sig 226 I tried out seemed chunky and the M&P came with adjustable back straps, which the glock did not. The best advice I think I got was to buy something that feels natural in your hand, which seems to be the general concensus here.

If I can have any of the three for free, I'll take the Sig and sell it.

If I can have any of the three for free, and I'm not allowed to sell it or give it away, I'll take the Glock.

This.

Everything else is just the old "Ford vs.Chevy" debate: opinion.

and for the record: just get a 1911. :bigear:

S&W or save for the Sig?

Get the Sig...... it is a higher quality than the others and will hold it's value better. Just make sure you get to have it in your hands, to feel and line up the sights. Glocks do not work for me, the angle is just wrong for a natural feel, Sig's fit me perfectly, everybody's hands and wrist angles are different, what ever feels most comfortable is what you will shoot better... You need to spend a few minutes with each one, then decide which one should go home with you.....

I disagree that the Sig is a better quality gun. I think these three are equal in quality. Each have been proven reliable and accurate. The only thing that is important is whether the shooter likes the gun and can shoot it.

My advice, don't sweat the choice between these 3.

Were it me I'd get the Glock. But the real choice that will make you a better shooter is to go get trained and then do tons of perfect practice. The difference between a shooter with good training vs no training is miles, whereas the difference between two untrained shooters who are debating Glock -vs- S&W -vs- Sig is inches

IDPA Nationals saw Glock ruling, but if Dave Sevigny was on S&W's payroll I bet he'd still win it all :fire

My Sig P229 is my preferred choice for carry. It has less recoil than the .40 caliber Glock I shot, feels great, and is double-single, which I also like.

I was looking at the Smith and Wesson M&Ps when I came across an XD for a price I couldn't pass up. If you find a deal, take any one of the ones you're looking for.

None of them are "cheap" - so if you're buying for the long term, get the one you want. If you feel like you're settling, you'll always wonder if you would have liked the other one better. I definitely wouldn't buy a starter model with the plans to upgrade later. It's not like a motorcycle that you're likely to lay over a few times - get the right one the first time!

BTW: I'm glad you finally took my advice and signed up for the forum! Great place! Make sure to come back often and be a part of the community. I'm not sure why I posted my opinions, since you've heard them 1,000 times. "rlol"

Sig currently has a cash for Klunker program. http://www.sigsauer.com/CustomerService/klunker.aspx
Purchase a new SIG SAUER® P220®, P226®, P229®, 1911, SIG556 pistol, or SIG556 rifle from your dealer’s inventory from September 7th through November 30th, 2009, and SIG SAUER will give you $200.00 for your old KLUNKER* pistol or revolver.

To receive your $200.00 payment, simply send your old KLUNKER* with a copy of your form 4473 and proof of purchase of your new Classic pistol (no later than Friday, December 4, 2009) to:

SIG SAUER, Inc., 18 Industrial Drive, Exeter, NH 03833, ATTN: CK-1

*KLUNKER refers to a handgun from any manufacturer that you wish to trade in for the $200.00 payment. Gun must be
operational and free from cracks in frame or other key components. KLUNKER must be a semi-auto pistol 9mm or larger, or revolver of .38 caliber or larger. SIG SAUER reserves the right to reject any firearm submitted as a KLUNKER that does not meet our criteria. Rejected firearms will be returned to sender. Please allow six (6) to eight (8) weeks for delivery of your check. This offer cannot be combined with any other program or offer.

Klunkers will not be accepted for payment after Friday, December 4, 2009. NO EXCEPTIONS.
:thumbs2:

By the way, I heard about this on Guntalk last Sunday. The Sig rep said that they will sell the klunkers to a dealer to be placed back into the retail market.

Sounds like a good way to move an old Jennings JA9 or a pawn shop Hi-Point...but alas, I don't have one. (but I do have a Sig P239  )

Any of them are fine pistols. Everyone has a their own preference, but I'd lean towards saving for the Sig. They are nice shooting, even though I'm more of a fan of HK's.
