Perhaps your experience differs, but I have a 3" Springfield .45 that has functioned flawlessly for over 2000k rounds. My friend has a Kimber Ultra CDPII (3" .45) that has also functioned flawlessly for over 1000K rounds. I know there are others on this board that swear by their 3 inch 1911's as well.

I'm sure some short 1911's do have reliability problems, just like some full size versions do. Just be careful using that broad brush. :cheers2:

The 1911s under 4" sometimes require a little more tuning.
I know Kimber has more trouble with the 3" guns than they do with the 4" or 5" versions of the same thing.
But what you get is one that fails to feed or fails to extract occasionally. A toll free call to Kimber and UPS comes to pick up your pistol. Kimber adjusts the extractor tension, I believe, and returns it to you. End of problems. And not a temporary fix, but END of problems. I've seen this story play out multiple times with different people and different models.
3" 1911s can be made to run 100%, it just may take a bit more effort to get them there.

Look up Dawson Precision.

They are a dealer and it is not TOO far from Austin.
I looked up Dawson and it's in Florence....not too far. Prices were in line with Brazos, too.

I think you'll like Dawson. Neat place to visit and ask to see a STI Edge.
You must leave the checkbook outside when visiting.

Ooops. Sorry. That was supposed to be 2K and 1K, or 2000 and 1000 respectively. Where's the facepalm smiley?
