Note, some states require you show CHL when asked for ID. Some have this requirement only when you are carrying. There is at least one state (to our east but I forget which), that requires you show CHL when approached by LEOs and before they ask for ID.
When I travel, I check every state I'll pass through. Further, if I have questions, I check for state forums such as this one to ask for clarification.
Since you were traveling through OK, what about Indian Reservations?

or unless they're asked whether they are carrying a firearm.

Oh to the OP, definitely check the laws of the state you're visiting and abide by them while you're there and you should be ok.

after my last few months of being beat on by certain figures that wear a badge.....yes i was doing no wrong.
i would have been very cautious about admitting to anything unless directly asked.
i used to trust the police, but now if they aren't my local folks i choose my words very carefully and be respectful were given the same. other than that...get a warrant, I will wait.

North Carolina...I think. Idiotic requirement in my opinion, but NC didn't ask me...
