That seems to be the big stretch for a lot of people.
Funny, it never occurred to me to ask.

I took the woman that I am dating to a gun show. While we were there I found the rifle that I had been looking for the last year for at a price that I just couldn't turn down. So I buy it. The next week the two of us go out with a group that we hang around with. We are waiting at a restaurant for dinner. And she turns to someone there and goes "ask him what he bought at the gun show last week". I nearly fell over. I stated that was something that I didn't discuss in public because it's a polerizing issue. She then turns around proceeds to tell them what I had bought.

After dinner I said that it wasn't anyones business and that they didn't need to know. Now that my liscense is processing I quite plainly told her that NO ONE was suppose to know about it. Just what I need is for the someone in the group to ask if i was carrying in public and have all heck break loose.

There used to be a rule in polite society that the only purchases that one could talk about were a dog or a horse. I don't know why.
When I was a kid, if a man left a place and someone asked him where he was going, the answer was frequently, "To see a man about a dog." My late father (what's going on with this thread?) had a different answer that would not be politically correct these days.
Not many people buy horses these days, though I have made that mistake.

Thanks Jim. I always wondered where those phrases came from. My own dad doesn't know, so now I'll be able to let him in on the secret.

Let us know how this works out for you; vis-a-vis the woman you're dating, not the CHL.

Well if she won't listen to me then we won't be dating!

Prudent.
It does tend to cut down on the celebrating we can do, though, so we have to do that on this forum....
That is one reason that this forum exists.

USA1 coined the new word, "Preparanoid", in this thread

I like to mesh the two words together and call it.."Preparanoid"

They say your memory is the second thing to go...but I can't remember what the first thing was.
AustinBoy -
Like everyone says here, "Concealed means Concealed". I generally try to not even discuss guns at all with people I don't know very well.

While waiting for mine to process , I told my next door neighbor with negative results.
I quickly found out that he is a bigtime anti-gun guy. This caught me off guard because he is a veteran.
Long story short ..our relationship hasn't been the same since.
Lesson learned...be careful who you let know .
Those of you that have not been in the Military might be surprised just how many folks on Active Duty are hard-core Liberals. In my personal experience it was mostly Officers. (The more educated you get, the more Liberal you get?) I learned to be real careful talking about any political issues around Officers. The younger ones seem to like to probe the troops on how they feel about particular issues. I learned not to respond and let them know politely that what they were asking was not Mission-oriented, so they didn't need to know.
Just look at the likes of John Kerry.

I don't walk around telling everyone I have a CHL but I also don't shy away for talking about it or bringing it up. By being secretive about it you lose the chance to educate people, if I had never talked about it I would never know one of our vendors has a CHL. Him and a sales rep he knew took me to lunch and we got the sales rep interested in learning more about his 2A options. There are 2 sides to every coin when you keep people in the dark then you lose a chance to gain a supporter and yes there are those that are very much against gun ownership and/or CHL that is the way it will always be.

Basically everyone I know, knows I am very Pro- 2nd and have a CHL, I'm *Holds up Fingers* This close to having my friend join "our side". I have gotten the rest of my friends to open their eyes about it, and taken quite a few to the range

Whew - there for a while I was afraid I was gonna be in the minority....
I'm not bashful about my love of firearms, and best of all is that my employer is not only cool with it, I'm kinda the company "go-to" guy when someone's looking to buy a gun - and of our 40+ employees, 80% are either "gun nuts", or married to 'em! I've actually helped the owner find several guns he wanted, and every time I walk in the office (I'm outside sales, so only make it to our main office about every 2-3 months) he loves to try to figure out where I've got mine stashed, and what I'm carrying. So far, he's never been able to figure out where I'm carrying it (yes, I switch around because I carry different ones depending on what I'm wearing and where I'm going to be), so it's a great "double-check" on how effective my CC efforts are.
Bottom line - I'm not bashful about being a "gun nut". Frankly, if someone is going to not do business with me because I choose to own a gun I don't really need them as a customer. Funny part is, a LOT of 'em either own 'em, or want to - and I've taken any number of them to the range to introduce them to the sport AND the realities of owning/carrying 'em. And yeah - I display my "NRA Life" decal on both my truck and the wifes' car. Some folks worry that it makes 'em a target - I want the bad guy to go find someone LESS likely to be able to put up a fight.
Just can't figger out why folks call me "Redneck".....

Dont get me wrong, I will talk about the 2nd ammendment and guns ALL day long.
I have just decided not to talk about my CHL when I dont know the stance of the person I am talking to.
At this point, I think I would have to have a pretty in depth gun conversation with the person before telling them I have my CHL. If they appeared to be interested, I would have a whole CHL conversation with them.
I was telling EVERYONE!
