As TDdude said, carry the one that fits your hand. In my case, its carry the one that fits in my hand as well as one that I can shoot well. For me, that would be my Sig p229 or my Glock-30.

I vote for the Ruger LCP.

Actually the question was spend lots of $$ on a Sig P239, or get an XD-9c *AND* a Ruger LCP. I am leaning the latter route
But thanks for the advice and feedback.

I went with the P239 SAS. Conceals easily, and shoots easily.
I have fired an XD, and it was nice to shoot, but I don't think I would care to us it as CCW. This is personal opinion as I do not even care to carry my Glock on my person, but often carry it in the car.
I like the little LCP to carry, as it is something light and easily concealable. I am not a good shot with the little guy, but it does offer some protection.
+1 for the P239.

Ever think about a Compact 1911?
Springfield makes the EMP in 9mm and .40
Great gun and concealing is not an issue.
Plus its a 1911...the greatest gun ever made

I've narrowed my options down to a couple of choices -
1) A Sig P239. It's just a slim, single-stack Lexus
or
2) A Springfield XD9 subcompact AND a Ruger LCP or Bersa Thunder (this choice gives me WAY more carry and dress options).
The obvious choice would be #2, but the Sig P239 is such a sweet piece. I'm also worried that since the XD9 is a double stack, it may be a bit too thick for comfort..
Of course, I'm just looking for opinions - or other options for a guy whose waist sits about 4" below where it really ought to be

Maybe not so obvious since you're asking ? Sounds like you like the sig over the other two... so my answer is to go with the sig. Get something you like and you'll carry it and become very familiar /good w/ it. I assume you are thinking about the 9mm P239? They also come in other calibres, I think .40sw is only 1 round less than 9mm in the P239, maybe better to carry?

Went to Mesquite gun show and picked up a XD-9c subcompact for $399+tax. Can't complain about that price. Should have picked up an LCP, but I'll wait for the next show. Wally Walk coming shortly (ha!) Grabbed a Galco JAK OWB holster for it for $50, and ordering a Comp-Tac Minotaur this week. That'll start me off with a couple of carry options.
Also picked up a Streamlight C4 LED TLR-1 tactical weapon light for my PX4 Storm - $108 out the door, and some Speer Gold Dot +P 22 124gr. for $23/box.
Fun Show!

Glad to hear you made a decision/purchase. I will second the Walther PPS...I own one and think it is VERY concealable. Super slim and the grip is not too long with the pinky extension. I would also look at the CZ75 compact is a little wider on the grip but pretty slim on the slide. The Springfield EMP could not conceal any easier in my eyes...Very close in size to the PPS I think.

Hope the XD works out for you. I have a Glock 23, but didn't start carrying regularly until I found the Walther PPS. Haven't missed a day (of carrying) since I renewed my plastic last July.
The Comp-TAC's a great holster; remember to get a proper gun belt, too, 1-2" larger than you normally wear.
Oh, and +1 on losing weight. There's every good reason to do so, and zero *good* reasons not to.

I agree the EMP is a good option. I looked hard at the EMP and the Kimber Ultra CDPII, but ended up going with the Kahr P9, due to the weight. The micro 1911's start at around 25oz versus the 17oz Kahr. If you don't mind the weight or the price, the small 1911's are definitely worth a look.
If I remember right, I think the Walther PPS is about the same in size and weight as the Kahr.

I think you couldn't go wrong with having an lcp as a backup or ultra comfortable gun. In the summer in shorts and a t-shirt an lcp is just so easy to slip in your pocket. I can wear no shirt and be in flip flops and still conceal an lcp.
