I've never waited as long as 20 minutes for a gun....before CHL or since.
Same here.

Although I know someone who didn't want to put their SS number
on the NICS form (which is optional) and it took several days for the approval.

Just the other day that same person decided to go ahead and supply their SS number
and was approved in 5 minutes.

I always put my SS number, frankly its not like if they dont have your SS number they wont be able to track you down.

True , however this person was more concerned with identity theft.

That is true, there needs to be a better way to submit info like that, but if we did a national ID Card with Smart Chips, people would throw a fit. But thats a topic for another time.

What this person did the second time was to write down the SS number on a separate piece of paper , so after the phone check was done , they could get the paper back without leaving sensitive information in someone else's hands.

I kinda like that method. ;-)

I've never waited more than 20 minutes and I don't have my CHL yes (still processing). I even had a Class C arrest due to an unpaid ticket and that didn't seem to hinder the process at all.

I would not be purchasing from a store that does this.

Interesting I thought when they still sent in the request but the CHL speeded the process. Regardless my wait time has usually been within 5-15 minutes with/without the CHL either way, including at a gun show.

I never give my SS#, I have and present my CHL, I fill out the 4473 (no NICS), I get my gun and go home.
I believe there is safety in numbers..
numbers like: 9, .22, .38, .357, .45, .223, 5.56, 7.62, 6.5, .30-06...

The SS# is irrelevant. I was at a show and got a delay, with the SSN. I walked 4 aisles over and bought a nice taurus and got a proceed instantly, no SSN(i forgot to put it). It is entirely dependant on who answers the phone. I was randomly getting delays and proceeds for several years, with or without SSN. CHL stopped that. I wont buy if they are calling in, as it is unnecessary and dont want to deal with delays. I actually got a 4 hour delay in December from the CMP! They had shipped me rifles in August (no issues)then when I reordered in November the lady called to let me know there was a delay, they should have the best records in the U.S.

I am non CHL and I waited about 3 minutes, not 3 days. It was at a Dallas gun show.

I would not buy at one of those mega outdoor stores anyway. Paid 500.00 for my XD 45 ACP. I was in Bass Pro the other day and checked on it there. I don't remember the exact price, but it was 600.00 and change. No thanks, I will buy at the gun shows or some other small dealer.

I would hope they would know better by now. After all, they hold CHL classes at the Grapevine location now. It could still be store policy, though. They still make you lock your gun when going to the range, but don't check anyone else for CC. I've actually CC in with my 27 and taken my 22 to the range a couple of times.

Crossfire: Thanks for the response.

That just seems a little unfair, but not everything's fair in life, right? So, the CHL is taken away and I'm sure the weapon is if they're carrying at the time of the arrest, but what about other weapons at home? Is one also prevented from purchasing firearms until the charges are dropped or found not guilty?
