Someone posted this rule from the NRA website.
Never use alcohol or over-the-counter, prescription or other drugs before or while shooting.
Alcohol, as well as any other substance likely to impair normal mental or physical bodily functions, must not be used before or while handling or shooting guns.

I think it's reasonable to skip the IDPA match if you're loopy on Nyquil, but do people lock up the HD shotgun too?
No...

and if you will read the rule again, you may see how your question has no relationship to this rule. I believe your referencing access, while the rule is referencing handling or shooting...such as having one on your waist or in your hands. My guns are not in use when sitting in a drawer. I never leave weapons laying out in the open either.

So the question should be... do you handle your firearms while doing intoxicating drugs, medications affecting normal mental functioning or drinking alchohol ? My answer would still be no.

A gun in a holster is as safe as a gun in a drawer. Maybe safer.

Wrong...you must handle the gun to either put it in the holster or take it out of the holster, which sooner or later you are going to have to do unless you plan to sleep with it on. A gun in a drawer can stay there until you are not under the influence. A gun in a holster falls under the ABOUT TO HANDLE category...while a gun in the drawer does not.

Some of you fellers are really reaching to justify doing something that is clearly not real smart. :smilelol5:

I can remove the gun and holster at the same time, without removing the gun from the holster. Still very difficult to fire it accidentally or on purpose without access to the trigger.

If someone is that unsafe with guns, they shouldn't carry. In sickness or in health.

I agree with you. Anyone so unsafe with guns that they would handle them while under the influence, should not carry at all. But, the RKBA even applies to those who behave irresponsibly. :coolgleamA:

I think I agree about :leaving , because this is very much like :deadhorse: Some folks have to learn the hard way and some folks have the honor of being a lesson to everyone else about what happens when one does stupid things.

On that note... :leaving
