Either one will work!! I shoot the Ultra series with no problems (Ultra Concealed Carry; Ultra Crimson Carry, Ultra Aegis). I crammed 800 rounds though the Ultra Crimson Carry at a weekend shooting school a few months ago without a failure.

Get one... have fun!

I own four 1911s, two of them are Kimbers. My first Kimber is a Custom (5 inch barrel) TLE II, my now primary carry is a Pro (4 inch barrel) Covert II. I had an option of the Covert II or the crimson carry however I decided to go with the Covert II because it had the night sights. I prefer to carry the Pro Covert II because it is lighter than my 3.5" RIA compact tactical. Normally barrel length does not affect concealment when carried IWB, but grip length does.

i've been carrying an ultra carry for over two years. even shot two idpa's with it just to get more familiar with it. after break in there have been no problems. unlike some of the responses here i don't have large hands though they are not small either. the gun shoots very well and i really have always liked it.
that being said, in december i bought an sti. it doesn't exactly make the kimber look/feel shabby...
do yourself a favor. spend some time handling the sti's next to the kimbers. you may still decide on the kimber but give yourself the option. i don't think you would be dissapointed with either gun.
guess i should have titled this, "just to add to the confusion."

I had never heard of STI until now...I will check them out. I found their website at http://www.stiguns.com/, and I will check them out since I always prefer to support Texas business.

I have the 3" stainless Ultra, and it is an accurate pistol which controls recoil very well for such a small gun. I actually shoot better with my Ultra than I do with my 5" Springfield Loaded.

...and the carry weight is significantly more pleasant too.

Everytime I take my Kimber custom TLE to the range I start to like it less and less.

6'2", 280# and absolutely love my Ultra Elite. Grips a little smallish sure, but every CCW pistol is a compromise of one point or another. I prefer OWB carry so it works better for me than my 4" RIA.

I've got about 600-700 rounds down so I know it well enough to trust my life to it - and do. Its functioned fine so far and of the last 100 rds @ seven yds, 94 were inside the 9 ring (three were ON the ring, three were in the head).

The KImber Kool-aid tastes fine to me. Of course, as with all things CCW, YMMV.

I own a Kimber Tac Pro II and absolutely love it. It is certainly my favorite pistol that I own. It points like a dream for me. Once I got through 300 rounds of break-in, I haven't had a single problem with it with any ammo.

At 5'8" - 150, it's a little big for IWB carry under a t-shirt for me down in Houston, so I generally only carry it when I wear a jacket, and opt for my Sig P238 in warmer times.

Bottom line: get to a range that rents guns and shoot the different brands and sizes until you find the one you want.

I wound up buying a Kimber Eclipse Pro II last weekend. So far I've put about 350 rounds of 230 gr FMJ through it in two separate trips to the range, and so far I love it! I have a Galco Combat Master OWB holster (http://www.usgalco.com/HolsterPT3.asp?P ... atalogID=4) for it, and I've got a Crossbreed Supertuck IWB already ordered. I did replace the stock grips with some Hogue wraparound grips, and I like them much better. I also picked up some Wilson Combat 8-round magazines, and they are without a doubt some of the best magazines I've ever used.

The Kimber Custom (not custom II mind you) I use has somewhere between 50,000 and 100,000 rounds through it (there were users before me) and runs great, until you introduce below freezing temperatures and Federal Wad-cutters. While it shoots incredibally accurately and extremely fast (5+1 drill in about 3s @ 7yards and poppers at 80yards) I do not like guns that have environmental and ammo related prerequisites to them working, and would not take it into combat, albeit the round count probably doesn't help in the reliability area.
