As you say, King Ranch would have more sections, but not contiguous. The XIT in the panhandle the largest ranch ever in TX...3 million acres. North and south fence were 200 miles apart. Claim is that XIT stand for "10 in Texas" as the ranch sits on 10 Texas counties. The land was given to the builders of the Texas capitol as payment. The blizzards of the late 1800's put an end to the really big ones of the "cattle empire" because all the cattle lost during the snows. Ol Poco Bueno, the first registered Palamino horse is from and buried on the Waggoner ranch as well, and all rgistered Palominos(including Trigger) come from him.surprise_i'm_armed wrote:wgoforth:
I thought the King Ranch in Kingsville, Texas, on the coast, was
the biggest ranch in Texas.
Perhaps it is not contiguous, though.
I have been to the King Ranch museum in Kingsville. It's situated
in a former ice factory. They have a lot of cool items from the ranch
such as photos and an early 1950's hunting car modifed with shooting
chairs on each of the front fenders.
The funny thing about the museum though, was that they did not have
one map of the ranch showing its boundaries.
