The misinformation from instructors doesn't surprise me. I've been teaching for 3 years now, and I'm constantly amazed at the inaccuracies perpetuated by many "I've been teaching since its inception" instructors. Anyone can take a moment to look over this forum and you'll find no shortage of "my CHL instructor told me..." followed by some blatantly incorrect statement. It doesn't take much effort to keep up with the changes in the laws. It's not like they change every two years or anything!
On the other hand, I found a post on another forum where a student said I told the class something, when I go out of my way to tell them the opposite! I guess people hear what they want to hear.
At my last instructor renewal, the DPS instructor was mistaken regarding the Castle Doctrine, was teaching from a pre-2007 presentation, and the legal goddess absolutely refused to discuss the Motorist Protection Act (unlicensed carry). It's no wonder come instructors are passing along bad information.
What really disappointed me was out of 40 instructors in my renewal class, 14 missed the "sender, message, receiver, feedback" question!
