I just got back from a 3 day trip to Glen Rose, and of course, I carried a pistol with me. But, I did consider packing the AR and a couple of magazines. The main thing that kept me from doing it was lack of having an unobtrusive bag to stow it in. I've been meaning to get one, but just hadn't done it yet. The problem is that I drive an SUV, and so there is no trunk to put the rifle in to keep it out of public view, or I would have been carrying it in the car already.

I think I would consider carrying an AR pistol for this purpose, especially if I was in cramped quarters. It would be much easier to maneuver than even a 16" collapsible stock AR, and if you needed the stability of a stock a CQB sling would work perfectly (if they're far enough away to need a stock, you probably have time to throw the sling over your shoulder once you hit some cover).

would be extremely quick. I'd have to research a bit to find a good model, but I've seen the Bushmasters go for about $800.

Of course, a Draco AK pistol would be just as good...



Speaking of penetration!!

IMHO something you have immediate access to would be excellent. Remember, cops usually get a call and have time to prepare if they're going into a situation that would require a rifle (I think). They would have time to go to the trunk and prepare everything...

Just my opinion. I could be way off.

I don't regularly carry a long gun in my vehicle but at times I have taken either my Mossberg 500 or my M1 carbine.

Only during evacuations and trips to the range. I am not sure I want to attract undue attention in a League City parking lot!

I also carry one if I am going to Tennessee to visit family...I love the way that sounds!

I kept a underfold ak in my truck in a tennis racquet case, my Ak and 2-30 round clips fit just fine in it. I carried that in my truck until I turned 21 and got my glock 22. If you guys decide to do that you have to get the oversized bag. I don't think most robbers would steal a tennis raquet but never under estimate the stupidity of one. I also removed my stock stereo in my truck and replaced it with an after market stereo and under my stereo I made a pull out shelf that conceals my glock. I sold my 22 and bought a 27 which fits in there even better since I'm waiting on my plastic to show up. I'll try and figure out how to post pictures so I can show yall if you would like. Just let me know

Some type of AR platform and 12ga Rem 870 20" bbl with flashlight in a Big Sky roof mount in the truck. Mount is out of sight and not noticed by some people who have rode with me.

If you are asking pictures about the rack i don't have any. The racks are sold by Cabelas and you want the one that mounts above the windows into the side and not the ceiling mount. Big Sky has a website http://www.bigskyracks.com/shooting.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. This is the third truck this rack has been in and soon to be in number 4.

Thanks for the link, I'm not sure those would conceal enough. Maybe they would....i just don't want someone to be able to see em at all

It may not be unobtrusive enough, but look into nylon guitar cases. I was at the range a couple months ago and a guy came in with a guitar bag slung over his shoulder (whammy bar visible in the mesh pocket on the front of the case) and they went down to the rifle range. What I heard coming from there a few minutes later sounded a lot more like "Click, Click, Boom!" than "Stairway to Heaven."

Considering the prices I see on guitars sometimes, I don't think I'd care to risk that

I completely forgot about AK pistols and folders fitting into tennis racquet cases. Use a beat up, dirty one and it would look like a lousy target for a thief...

I wonder if an AR pistol would fit in one as well.

The only time I have a long gun in the truck is when I'm going to the range. But in the spirit of the discussion, perhaps this would be a good use for one of those cheap Hi Point 9mm carbines (which are, apparently, much less awful than their pistols).

Or the keltec Someone else mentioned that folds in half and uses the handgun mags. What would be the better round to use in a rifle, the 9 or the 40?

I thought the whole point of carrying a long gun was in case you ended up in a situation where you needed the extra firepower... are the pistol-caliber carbines significantly more powerful than their handgun counterparts?

no expert but my understanding is the longer barrel results in a much higher velocity.
