Nice try, Joe, but I think I have all the holidays, anniversaries, Mom's Day and any other celebratory situation covered for at least the rest of the year. You saw the list... After my Bushmaster, my STI and quite possibly my M&P 9, the family really needs a shotgun!

The secret to owning an LCP is buy ammo where you find it. Bite the "bullet" and pay the price. I bought some and shoot a few. Keep doing that and you will build up a stock pile. I just never have the cash to buy a bunch at a time, so I buy a few when I find it.

Several dealers had some .380 ammo at the Mesquite Gun show this last weekend. I bought a box of Blazer CCI for $20 - which wasn't bad as I had paid $18.99 + tax for some at Dick's Sporting Goods about 3 months ago. The next lowest price I saw was $23 for 50 rounds of FMJ reloads. There were others selling .380 for as much as $34 a box of 50.

I routinely check at my local Walmart for .380 but never find any. One of the Sporting Goods clerks there told me that they do get in .380 occasionally, but there is one guy who comes in every morning and if they have .380, buys up to the limit of 6 boxes and then comes back with his wife and buys more. The clerk suspects this guy is buying to sell at gun shows for double the price.

Jepper, at the February Gun Show in Tyler there were several tables that had WWB .45 acp for $50-55. You know, that's the same WWB that Wal-Marts sells for $33-35, depending on which Wal-Mart you shop.

I bought .380WWB at the Wal Mart on I-635 and MacArthur in Irving. I also bought a couple of boxes of .40 Federals.

The Hickory Creek Wal-Mart has been very bad until lately
at having any kind of ammo in stock. But a few weeks ago
I spotted a WWB VP, 100 rounds, of .380. I almost fell over.

Then the same store this past Saturday had 5 WWB VP's with
100 rounds. $33.97, IIRC. I almost impetuosly was going
to buy 2 of them, then dash down to Academy Lewisville to
get a Bersa Thunder. But I decided to hold up and sleep
on a new purchase longer.

The Lewisville Wal-Mart ammo counter guy told me that his
store has been getting .380 also, but it goes uber fast.

Aim of this posting: .380 supplies are starting to appear!

More .45 has been popping up too, both JHP's and FMJ's.

I picked up 4 boxes of this Winchester .380 VP ammo (100 count boxes) from 2 local Austin area Walmarts yesterday - basically on impulse given recent consideration of Pocket Carry Weapon. IF I decide to continue forward with this uncertain adventure, I should have a good jump-start to train myself with new weapon (likely Ruger LCP w/Crimson Trace Laser).

Hopefully the trend of .380 supplies will continue (in my case, at least for training ammo).

I ordered a 500-round supply of Magtech (with dry box) for $189.99 from Cabelas on January 11 with a 1-2 week backorder. It's been pushed back and pushed back, and now shows tentative arrival on Mar 15. Coming close... but still, I'm disappointed. I don't think I'm going to be buying from Cabelas again any time soon. They could at least be honest with backorder times.

This isn't the first time I've been jerked around by them like this either.

Anybody use this stuff in an LCP? How is it?

I'm planning on ordering an LCP from AIM in the next couple of days and wanted to make sure I have some ammo to run through it

Don't mean to hijack the thread. Just FYI, I order 2 boxes of 25 count defense rounds (can't remember which) with a 1-2 week backorder. EIGHT MONTHS later they offered me a substitute. I had forgotten that I had ordered them and had already purchased several boxes off the shelf. I will NEVER order ammo from Cabela's again.

I wonder how much the popularity of the LCP contributes to the lack of availability of .380?
Also, how many rounds can one put through it before it "wears out" the gun?
I put 350 rounds through mine to break it in but I'm hesitant to shoot hundreds and hundreds more.
When I do shoot it I basically practice drawing and "point" shooting it rapid fire with the target out between 10 and 25 feet.
Thoughts?

I think that has a lot to do with it. And not just the LCP.

There are more and more manufacturers producing .380 pocket pistols
these days and more and more people buying them due to the ease of
carrying such a small pistol.

The gun shows are crazy. I went with my dad once and after that I refused to ever go back. Honestly I am not one for restrictions on gun rights but the ammo shortage in large part is caused by these guys. Go to a gun range and ask if all the ammo is being shot and the answer is no. A lot of the ranges have cooled down and while more people then five years ago are going to the range it is not like it was a year ago. There is nothing wrong with buying several hundred rounds so you can go to the range whenever you want and not worry if you will have rounds left over but the gun show guys are buying thousands and thousands of rounds and increasing the cost by 50%+. Personally I think the ammo market will become over produced at some point with these guys buying it all up. I even talked to a major ammunation manufacturer who said the number of ammunation dealers who buy from them has increased by 4X in the last two years and they said in five years there is going to be a lot of handgun ammo on pawn shops shelves and that they are enjoying the amazing sales while it lasts. Sorry for stealing the thread but I feel this is the main reason many can not find ammo.
