I carry a knife everyday, everywhere. To me, a good quality tactical folder is as basic as a first aid kit. Yes, knives are excellent weapons and a very reliable backup to your gun in a dire situation, but they are also a tool. If I need to open a box, or cut someone out of a seatbelt, I am ready. Odds are you will need a quality knife many times over before you need to draw your gun.

Agreed. Most people carry a knife as a tool, myself included, but it can be used as a last resort weapon too.

Agree with most for using a knife as tool and extreme backup weapon. To tell you the truth I'd rather get into a fist fight than a knife fight, I feel much more comfortable grappling and sparring and have never had any blade training.

Yep.

I've always seen it this way: If you get in a knife fight, you lose. Expect to get cut.

Always bring a gun to a knife fight.

If I HAD to fight with a knife, I'd want a large extended handle.
An M1 Garand would do nicely.

Like many others here, I've carried a pocket knife of one sort or another for the past 50 years. For the past 20 years or so, that has been some kind of "tactical" folder with a pocket clip. For the past couple of years, it has been a black Kershaw Tanto Blur. The reasons I carry that kind of knife instead of some other is because they are ready to hand with the belt clip, they lend themselves well to one-handed opening, and they have rough textured grips for secure handling. The Kershaw Blur models have an assisted opening feature and so they deploy with even less effort than one without it.

My knives are useful tools, and they have never been used for anything except opening boxes, or as an ad-hoc picnic knife. I would use it as a last ditch defense weapon if necessary, but I'm going to be bingo ammo before I try anything crazy like that.

I carry a tactical folder (CRKT M16-LE), and I agree with what everyone else says about it being a tool first and a weapon only as a last resort. It's time consuming and messy to open boxes by shooting at them.

I also carry two small multi-tools as well: a CRKT "L'il Guppie" and a M4 Sebertool. They're small and easily fit in my pocket with my change. I sometimes leave the tactical folder at home because it's so big but I am NEVER without the multi-tools. They are indispensable for those times when you suddenly need a pair of pliers or a phillips screwdriver, etc.
