Libertarian, though like many people here I simply selected the lesser of the bad choices, kind of like McCain.

My start ended up right at the tip of the chart - libertarian. A friend of mine pointed out that the author of this survey is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Nolan_(libertarian), so things might be a little skewed.

I wound up almost centered in Libertarian, I wish I could figure out which question I answered wrong.

I'm right at the tip of the green Libertarian section. Methinks it may be a bit rigged, but I'm not really surprised I wound up where I did.

Of course it's a bit rigged, but the entire point is to help people understand that most people, at their core, lean strongly libertarian. Nobody likes to be told what they must or must not do, nor how they must spend their money. Most people also don't want to tell other people what they must or must not do, nor how they must spend their money. Most people, when they're being honest and not just reactionary, don't want a government that is big enough to have that kind of power over people's personal lives and choices.

There is a small minority of people who want that kind of control over others, and they're mostly either academics, students who don't have to pay their own way in life, and government officials.

Conservatism and libertarianism share the same basic principles: that your life is your own, and no one should be able to control your life or the fruits of your labor, including using government as a proxy to do the dirty work.

:iagree: There you go. I had that impression as well. I just thought it was interesting and it starts to make you think about what parts of each question really are important to you.

"If you analyze it I believe the very heart and soul of conservatism is libertarianism. I think conservatism is really a misnomer just as liberalism is a misnomer for the liberals — if we were back in the days of the Revolution, so-called conservatives today would be the Liberals and the liberals would be the Tories. The basis of conservatism is a desire for less government interference or less centralized authority or more individual freedom and this is a pretty general description also of what libertarianism is. Now, I can’t say that I will agree with all the things that the present group who call themselves Libertarians in the sense of a party say, because I think that like in any political movement there are shades, and there are libertarians who are almost over at the point of wanting no government at all or anarchy. I believe there are legitimate government functions. There is a legitimate need in an orderly society for some government to maintain freedom or we will have tyranny by individuals. The strongest man on the block will run the neighborhood. We have government to ensure that we don’t each one of us have to carry a club to defend ourselves. But again, I stand on my statement that I think that libertarianism and conservatism are traveling the same path."
--Ronald Reagan, interview in Reason magazine, July 1, 1975

My little star was kinda to the left and under LIBERTARIAN. I also read the definitions of each catagory and I guess they got me right. Was an interesting survey.

Well, you could take this test (http://www.bcaplan.com/cgi-bin/purity.cgi) just to see how libertarian you actually are.

A little bit past half way down the top line from the tip of Libertarian to the Conservative line.

I only got in the 80s but I'm more a Constitutionalist than a Libertarian. I favor an extremely limited Federal Government and much smaller State and local governments than we have now, but not total privatization.

An option that is not represented in the questions or the chart is that government power is inherently illegitimate.

Anarcho-Capitalism or voluntarism.
