Marlin Firearms to close in North Haven

Sad to see people layed off.

Expect to see more of it when the taxes and fees for healthcare deform start penalizing companies for having employees.

Hope we don't see another American made product moved overseas. Winchester stopped production here in 2006. We have one of the last Winchester 94's made. Sure would like to know if Marlin is going to cease production, move to another state, or overseas. I might have to put a Marlin on my short list for shopping.

I don't think you will see marlin closed, just the plant. I went to their web site and then the Remington site to look for news releases. I found this old one:

about Remington consolidating manufacturing. This would look to me to be more of the same thing. Note the comment in the posted article about sustaining any business manufacturing model in Conn.

I just wish all of the firearms manufacturers would do like Ronnie Barrett and move to states that support gun ownership. I think Texas was about number 3 or 4 on the latest list of gun supporting states from the Brady Campaign. And we do have a fairly good business and manufacturing environment in this state to boot.

I'd like to see them go a step further and discontinue (or severely limit) sales to/in states that do not support them.

Apparently they are moving the Marlin plant. I hope they will not move from the US. At any rate the jobs are lost in North Haven.

Well, I received about 2 weeks ago in the mail a Marlin 2010 Sporting Firearms Catalog. Their address was reflected as Madison, N. C., 800-544-8892.

That's probably corporate headquarters address and/or the address for publications. Remington which bought Marlin and is headquartered there. Remington's address is also Madison N.C. As stated previously in the thread they are part of the Freedom Group . DPMS, Bushmaster, Dakota Arms and H&R all are under the umbrella of Freedom Group. I am of the opinion they are moving Marlin manufacturing not closing.

Another article, mostly about the state legislators shocked and wringing their hands that this is happening. They're rushing to band-aid the situation. There's quite a different story in the comments, including a comment by one person claiming that legislators met with Marlin 6 months prior.

Most of the comments are along the lines of "you taxed them to death, what do you expect?" This is apparently not a new trend in the state.

The politicians just don't listen and even when they do mthey don't get it. Even in a little town like Flatonia, Tx. A successful medical supply business warned the city fathers it would lose if they continued escalating taxes and offered no relief, but the warning went unheeded. Business moved, jobs lost! Of course I'm sure the reaction will be to raise taxes of those still there!

If we thought taxes are bad now, or going to get bad...Wait till they decide to get that VAT thing going...In a National or Federal way...

Remember when we were told that we would not have taxes raised on us, not one dime???

hehehe, prepare for the VAT to be put on the guns and ammo we buy in the future...It will be assessed and added at a higher rate determined by folks who definetely want to see our Second Amendment rights be taxed into oblivion...

If I didn't want any of you to be able to do that anymore, this is one of the things I would press for to get that done...
