NRA/TSRA (not stickers)

I've been a member of the TSRA for several years and I like that they don't send me junk mail very often. I get a letter of some kind maybe once a month or less. I get the magazine every other month. Even when they do ask for donations by mail, it is just 15 or 20, not 50 or 75. You won't feel harassed with junk mail.

Also, you can sign up for their email list and you will get updates regularly throughout the legislative sessions giving you progress on gun related bills. They will also ask you to call yours or other legislators to back certain bills. The legislative lobby side of the TSRA is first class and very good IMO. Their donations are separate from the main TSRA though.

The other nice benefit is they make really nice calendars every year that they send out. It is nice to flip a picture of a different gun every month.

i agree with preacher , the tsra is a great organization. they have helped me several times when i need information.

i love the nra also , but they do seem to be mainly trying to sell life insurance these days.

Having membership in the NRA for the last 2-1/2 years and the TSRA only since January of this year - I certainly agree with a number of the comments posted so far. The NRA is a great national organization, but they sure seem to send out more mailing than any group that I have ever seen! The TSRA is just the opposite - in regard to the mailing that is - they too seem to be a great supporter and advocate for shooter's rights at the state level. Both groups are seriously needed during this time of government and anti-firearm groups attempts to limit or take away individual rights. I appreciate both the NRA and the TSRA, as for the mass mail .... I am proud to say that I have the personal freedom to chose to read them or not...sure beats the alternative.

For those who commented about the excessive NRA mailings:

Q: How can I reduce the amount of mail I receive from the NRA?
A: Simply email us at membership@nrahq.org or dial 800-NRA-3888 and request to be placed on the "Do Not Promote" list. This will significantly reduce the amount of mail you receive without affecting important mailings, magazine service, or your membership renewal.

I refuse to make a choice between the NRA and TSRA. Without the NRA, we would have laws at least as repressive as the expired AWB. Without the TSRA, we wouldn't have CHL and the periodic improvements in the CHL law.

I'm a long-time life member of both NRA and TSRA.
I don't always agree with some positions they take, tactics they use, compromises they agree to, or the kind of stuff they put in my mailbox. But in the long run, they do pretty much what I need them to do. Together we do it better than I could do it by myself.

When I joinedTSRA it was 2 months I still hadn't received any type of conformation from them about my membership; how ever my bank statement (used debit card) showed my payment the very next day after I had joined. I called and told them how long it had been and I received my membership packette in 3 days. A couple weeks after that I got another memebership packette. Guess they were just making sure I got my TSRA stuff. I does take a while guess they don't have as many people on staff as the NRA does. I had been wondering why all the "donate to this that or the other" junk mail from the NRA. I decided I could use the Video's at 12 bucks a pop. But not going to send them $25.00 every other day as I receive all their mailings.

I'm a member of both. Folks have listed all the good stuff they do, but one thing that hasn't been mentioned is the insurance for our local range comes through the NRA. I'm sure other clubs must have similar arrangements.

Incidentally, I agree with the others about the volume of junk mail from the NRA. Annual membership is what I can afford, so that's what I have. I started getting renewal notices less than a month after joining and now I'm worried that I'll miss the important one, when it's actually due, because it'll get buried in amongst the one a month that I get, along with the solicitations for random insurance products, etc, etc.

For those of you who weren't around or do not remember the FFA of 1968, let me tell you the NRA has done much to alleviate the great burdens imposed and to change the laws. Just a couple listed here - In 1968 gun sales to out of state individuals - prohibited. Requirement to record sales of pistol ammuntion including drivers license #. I got writer's cramp from selling .22 ammo. Without the lobbying of the NRA who knows what else would have been outlawed by now. TSRA has been instrumental in getting CHL in Texas and continues the fight for more firearms freedom in our state. Good bad or ugly they're all weve got between us and the anti-gun ilk in our legislatures. Save the junk mail for fire starters or maybe check to see if they'll take you off the list. IAOMSN.
