If you're being obvious enough to read their license plate, you might as well be really obvious and use the camera phone to get their license plate (and their faces, if they haven't found a pressing need to be elsewhere the moment you start taking pictures).

I had a buddy who bought one speaker (yeah, just 1 ) and then called me to ask if he could hide it at my house. He didn't want to explain to his parents why he had a "stolen" speaker in his car, since he was living at home during the summer. All this after he looked it up online through his iPhone before he bought it for $100 and saw nothing but "scam, scam, scam".

Idk what he was thinking. I actually have it sitting less than 5 yards from me as I type this. Only hooked it up for about 2 minutes to see if it worked, which it did, though not very well. Then I kept it with the thought of sticking it into my little Honda Civic hatchback as free subs that I wouldn't mind if they were stolen. Never got around to it though.

Did I mention that my friend's an Aggie?

So you are openly admitting that you are in pocession of stolen property and would not mind if said stolen property was in your car?!?!

IIRC, you just comitted a class b misdemeanor according to the Penal Code (Sec 31.03 part 2). IANAL but that is how I read it. If thats the case you could lose your CHL.

Maybe somebody with much more knowledge than I on this subject will come along and confirm or deny this.

Oh calm down. They're junk speakers sold for cheap while the sellers claim they're classy expensive speakers. The speakers aren't stolen. Mine are "Kirsch" brand, clearly listed as a "White Van Scam" brand here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_van_speaker_scam

Now if they were some JL Audio Subs that the guys ripped out of some poor dude's car, then I'd have acted differently. But it's a tower with 2 cheap 8" speakers in it. Supposed to be one of a set, but my buddy only bought 1.

ha ha, I had this happen to me a few weeks ago out here in Keller, TX. I stopped off at the local subway shop on 377 (or main street for the keller-ites) up the road from the QT. I get out of my truck and hear some guy yell "hey, our boss at the rental place wants us to get rid of some speakers.... blah blah blah). I told them no and started to turn around, when they did phase 2 of the sales pitch about what a great deal it was. One of the jokers opened his truck door and my hand went immediately to my hi-point in my kholster....they decided that they should get back to "Work" and drove off.

I just seem to have zero patience for these people.

These speaker guys are such pests. Why would anyone
buy speakers from a cruising van in a parking lot when you
could go to Best Buy or any other good retail store, and shop
properly?

Another species of vehicle-borne pests are those jokers that
drive around in pickups with one of those jury-rigged freezers
in the back selling meat. Sheesh.
