I don't intend to lose...
But come to think of it...
I'd hope I'd win before I had to shoot...
Didn't that Chinese (Sun Zu ???) guy a long time ago say something like that???
I'd hate to steal a quote...

I intend to be prepared, I intend to avoid what I can, but I intend to resist what can't be avoided.
Can you ever be totally prepared or sufficiently trained? I don't think so.
We have smoke detectors, a carbon monoxide alarm, a fire extinguisher, a first aid kit, spare tires, jumper cables, a generator, insurance and guns, OC and knives.
I hope we don't ever have to use any of the stuff listed above! But we have it, if we need it.
Will I win? I don't know. I will try.
Iraq, The War on Terror. Should probably be a separate thread. The USA is not going to succeed in establishing a democracy in Afganistan, Iraq or any other Islamic country.
Terrorism is not an ideology or a nation, it is a tactic of warfare.
What we fought against in 1776 was England.
What we fought against at the Alamo was Mexico.
What we fought against in WWI was Germany.
Until we admit that Islam is the enemy we will not be able to design a winning strategy.
Islam means submission. That is one reason Islam opposes democracy, because democracy = freedom. Islamic nations don't want democracy they want submission to Islam and sharia law.
If the US killed every man, woman and child in Iraq that would not stop Islamic terrorism from happening again on US soil.
We are in a war for sure, but it is not a war against terrorism, it is much larger than that.
PS Even though we trade with the CIS(Russia) and China we are still at war with communism. Or communism is still at war with us even if we don't think so.
I hate to be the one to deliver the bad news, but I have to. Regards, OE

What is victory in Iraq, Longtooth? You didn't really say. What is it we're winning, and how will we know when we've won it?
The thing is...
keep the war in their back yard and not in ours.
Take the war to them, instead of allowing them to bring it to us once again and repeating 911.
I'd say that we're successful there, as it's our solders that are doing the job and keeping innocent women and children alive and not being burned up as in the twin towers.
If we weren't there, they'd be here.

kw5kw, good summary. I will use that if it is alright w/ you. Their back yard instead of ours. Sometimes the fewer words get the point over w/ a point.

Interesting; my whole post went away.
'They' being any random Arabs? The Iraqis had nothing to do with the terror attacks on the US. If we were going to invade any Arab country, it should have been Saudi Arabia.
They being the one's who are doing all the bombing of our solders over there, not their innocents. There is a large faction of Christian/Jewish hating people over there... over there being the whole of the middle east... who are bent against us all. It has been happening since 681 when the Arab general, Uqba bin Nafi stood on the shores of the Atlantic saying "Alah is great. If my course were not stopped by this sea, I would still ride on to the unknown kingdoms to the west, preaching the unity of God, and putting to the sword the rebellious nations who worship any god but him." 1
This has been an ongoing battle between Muslems and Chistians since before then.

I have to call you on this one.
More than once, Saddam sheltered Al Qaeda operatives in Iraq, gave them food, provided medical care, and gave "aid and comfort." While Saddam was not directly involved in 9/11, he WAS well aware of AQ's intentions, and by his actions supporting AQ, approved of those intentions.
Another thing that folks forget is that AQ is a relative newcomer to terror attacks on the USA.
It was not Al Qaeda that bombed our embassy in Lebanon.
It was not Al Qaeda that bombed our Marine barracks in Beirut.
It was not Al Qaeda that bombed the USS Cole.
It was not Al Qaeda that committed any of dozens of attacks against the United States, her people, her diplomats, her military, and her allies.
It was Hezbollah, and those allied and associated with Hezbollah. Yes, the same Hezbollah that Saddamn Hussein provided money to, to the tune of many millions of dollars.
In fact, Al Qaeda has had one, count it,
one successful attack against us. Hezbollah has had many.
Saudi Arabia's government did not pay the families of suicide bombers $20k each as a reward for their son/brother/father killing innocent civilians. Iraq under Saddamn Hussein DID.
Rob Longnecker, my apologies for the continuation of the hijack of your thread.

I don't delete posts because I agree or do not agree with the position stated. I am tired of editing posts to make them compliant with the 10 year old daughter rule; I simply don't have the time to do it any longer. If a post violates the forum rules, it's going to be deleted.
I agree, your post was lengthy and I'm sure you did put considerable time into it. It's also clear you feel strongly about the subject matter, but I too feel strongly about the 10 year old daughter rule. Deleting the post was not intended to drive you from TexasCHLforum, but that is entirely your decision.
