Yes?
If so, why on earth would he ask such a question in front of the boss?
Either he's dreadfully naive or potentially put up to the question by the boss...
My place is not really too squared away as far as providing new employees with
detailed human resources policy manuals.
My fellow CHL made our former boss aware of his 2A leanings and that boss said
something along the lines of "Well, I can't control what you keep in your truck."
Which was a veiled way of saying that he shouldn't be carrying on body.
To tell you the truth, I'm not sure that I could actually put my hands on any policy
documents that explicitly detail gun prohibitions, but I know they don't want employees
carrying. Those who have had to draw and/or shoot have definitely been fired, I know
that much.
Those of you who have suggested some other responses to what I did:
Talking about guns at work with someone I hardly know is not something I want to do.
Remember the Monty Python "spam" skit? Sometimes something with only SOME spam
was offered. "But I don't want ANY Spam!!"
Well, I don't want ANY gun talk at work unless it's with my fellow CHL when we are out
of earshot of others.
I'd love to work at a place where CHL's are out in the open. But that's not my world.

So you're saying that your job actually has a
HISTORY of events where it was necessary to present and/or shoot????
That right there would convince me to carry all the time or change jobs.

My decision is to carry all the time, with the expectation
that I will never have to draw.
But I'm prepared for such an eventuality.
Am I paranoid? No, why would I be paranoid?
I carry a gun!

SIA, I've held off until I could come up with a reasonable response to the original question of the employee asking "do you have a gun?"
The answer should be an honest "yes, I do." But ONLY if you have a gun at your residence. ......
If you don't.....please give me a call. I'll GIVE you one.
No it's not what you expect. It's a gun but it's broken.

I'm serious. You know me. I'll give you one just to say you have one. Besides.....I OWE you, my friend.
Give me a call.

This intrigues me more than the original post. How many people at your job have had to "draw and/or shoot" at your workplace? To me, it seems that if you have a history of situations that call for CHLs to defend their lives while at work your boss would be more inclined to allow CHLs to carry for their own protection.

I thought you were really going to pull out a twix and eat it before you answered him. The story was great until there was no twix, what happened to the twix, you know, carmel, chocolate with the cookie crunch!!! I feel duped!!!!

No kidding. How often do folks have to draw and fire weapons where you work?

My statements have been accurate. At this point, I would
like this thread to die down since I don't wish to share any
further data on my current work scenario.
Since the economy's improving, and I have a week's vacation
to take, I will probably be in a different environment in the
near future. For that one, I may need to get an LCP!

Even if I had a Twix, it would have been hard to consume it
when my heart was in my throat, alarmed that I somehow
had been "made"!!

I always carry 2 at a minimum, and
have more at home.

The Annoyed Man wrote:"Do you have a gun?"
My answer: "Why yes, I have a safe full of them. Would you like to go shooting some day?"
That's pretty similar to my prepared answer: "Sure, I've got a small collection at home. I love history, and I like to collect bolt-action military rifles from both World Wars. How about you, what kinds do you like?"

I would have just answered "Sure I do, at home!". Not a lie... I'm a master of half truths
