How often....

Re: How often....
Its interesting how many "newer" gun owners we have on the site. I grew up around guns, didn't buy one myself until the Spring of 08 (got lucky and got my EBR before prices went nuts). Then of course I had to have a pistol too....and a shotgun...then I had to have a 1911....

I have my wife convinced that guns, to men, are like shoes to women...she buys a new pair of shoes, I buy a new gun. Makes doin the math a lot simpler and it's amazing how much it's lessened the attraction of those shoe sales.

Re: How often....
Well, I do subscribe to the Brady Bunch theory on this. You know what I mean, one gun per month.
Unfortunately, my finances quite often stop me from doing my share. In reality, I buy a new weapon when I can afford it, find one I am interested in, and have no higher priorities for the money. And all three of those must happen at the same time. There are lots of times I have found guns I am interested in and could not afford it, and a few less times I found one I was interested in, but could not convince myself it was the right time to buy that particular gun (usually other things to do with the money). I am just guessing it has worked out to about once every six to eight months for the past four or five years.

Re: How often....
I would buy one once a week if hubs would let me: I go look every week, sometimes I get lucky and he says okay. If he says okay, I know he wants a new tool. Since Dec. 2009 I have bought 8 handguns and 2 rifles. I already had 4 handguns and 1 rifle that I have had for a few years. I am still looking for the "perfect" one. (Gun that is)

Re: How often....
Another good question is "How often... do you buy ammo". Cause I've spent a lot more on ammo over the years than I have on firearms.

Re: How often....
Ammo is another story. If I find hard to get rounds like .380, I buy it when I find it. When I find ammo on sale, I buy it and stock up. My last purchase was at Cabella's for Sellier & Bellot 9mm Luger FMJ. They normally sell it for 13.99 a box of 50, but had it on sale for 8.99 a box. I bought 1200 rounds.

Re: How often....
I go into Bachman Guns a couple of times a month to drool....does that count?
Re: How often....
What if your gun accessories cost as much as some guns?
ie - surefire flashing light in laure mount, Aimpoint optics, CT lasergrips for handguns. High dollar kit is just as bad as buying guns all the time. That said, I'm about once a quarter on a gun, or significant gear purchase like those I mentioned.

Re: How often....
The last gun I've actually purchased was back in 2004 and that was my M1.
Now that doesn't stop me from drooling over the pistol counter in Academy or Bass Pro a few times a month. I'm saving up for another but money is tight what with buying a house and all.
Let's just say my wishlist is rather extensive.

Re: How often....
Whenever we find something we like, if we can afford it, we snatch it up. We don't plan many gun purchases but the ones that are planned are the ones we save up slowly for, rather than hitting the bank account at once.
I have a "Gun Fund" jar on my nightstand into which I deposit any extra cash I have on me at the end of the week. That fund is for my 1911. I should have enough by my birthday to buy myself a nice gift!

Re: How often....
My wife and I have purchased eighteen guns (including three that were gifts for family members and one that's temporarily on loan to her son) in just under three years.
Her most recent acquisition was the pink camo 20-guage Mossberg just before last year's CHL Forum day @ PSC; mine was the STI 9mm Guardian last winter.
Unless something irresistible comes along, we're probably just about done.

Re: How often....
I buy 2-3 a year, and sell or give away one. My collection grows by 1 every year I guess.

Re: How often....
I have a budget for guns that dictates how many I buy. If I run through my budget I have to sell one off to get another. I have bought only one gun this year, but have aquired three others through trade. I still have the majority of my budget left but plan on buying accessories and tax stamps
, not guns, with it. That said, I typically aquire 3 or 4 new (or new to me
)firearms a year. I have gotten to the point where I trade more than buy though.
