You can legally carry your handgun with you while you drive
No, the point is, if I value my job, which I do, and I my employeer does not allow me to keep my weapon in the car in the parking lot, then I can NOT carry it for protection while I drive there in the morning and home in the evening (or during lunch). Nor is there really any
public place to park anywhere near where I work. Additionally, our building has a single, unarmed "guard" in the front lobby. Past him/her, it is open season on the rest of us with
very limited points of exit.
No, I can't be arrested for keeping my CCW in the car, but I could lose my job - whether the handbook language was 30.06 compliant or not. Funny thing is that the building itself has no NO-GUN signs 30.06 or otherwise, which sure seems to say to me that non-employee CHL holders
ARE allowed to carry there.
And since the handbook says "weapons" rather than firearms, specifically, that means I can't even carry a knife or pepper spray.
Unfortunately, not all of us are in a position and/or time of our lives where we can risk losing our jobs. Like I said, it is just frustrating.

Your CHL does away with background checks when purchasing a new handgun
I did
not present my CHL the last time I bought a handgun and if they did a background check it happened so quickly that I didn't notice.

Like I said, I'm in the same boat. My employer shares a flightline with a military base so our company sits on federal property. Hence no firearms. Period. It sucks that I can't carry to and from work. It sucks that I can't bring my guns with me to go directly to the range after work. But all that doesn't apply on weekends and after work hours. Those are the times where I'm more likely to need a firearm. If I have a bunch of stops to make, I try to schedule it so I'll leave work, go home, arm myself, then go do my errands.
Or look at it this way... without a CHL you can't cover yourself at work and outside work. With a CHL, you'll get to cover yourself outside work. I spend more hours outside work so I'm still covering the majority with a CHL.

I understand that I can be fired for violating company policy if I have been given verbal notice to not carry on company property.
Example: I am hired on the 1st of the month and verbally told I can't carry a firearm on company property. On the 15th of the month I carry on company property and my boss sees it. He wants to call LE and have me arrested along with being fired.
Since the verbal notice carries the same weight as a proper 30.06 sign, I would also be trespassing. Yes or No.
If yes, then arrest is also a possible outcome, along with being fired.
Is my thinking all screwed up here?

Some of those with more legal knowledge may correct me but here is my take on this
Once you are verbally warned by your employer you are violating company policy if caught with a gun, not the law. You can be fired but not arrested. If you receive written warning in a manual or memo from your employer that contains the language required by 30.06 (or 30.06 signs are posted), then you could be arrested in addtion to being fired.

The way I read it is if you are told you cannot be there with a gun and you don't leave, you can get fired and arrested for tresspassing.

Correct, verbal notice under §30.06 doesn't require any specific language.

Ok, so how many of your coworkers know that you carry and how many times do you allow others to search your car without a search warrant. what they don't know cannot hurt.
Maybe it is too risky for some, but I drive very long distance to work and back home every day. That in itself is too risky to not carry.

Chas.
But for practical application, any trespassing charge requires one of two things: acknowledgement by the alleged trespasser that notice was received, or the property owner/manager giving verbal notice in the presence of a LEO, followed by refusal to leave.
In the first instance: "Remain silent". You may have heard that term. It's not dishonest to refuse to answer when the answer could incriminate you. Don't lie; remain silent if a LEO asks if you've been verbally told that you can't carry a firearm there.
In the second instance: leave. If the property owner/manager starts telling you that you can't be there, then tell him (and any attending LEOs) that you respect private property rights, and don't want to stay where you're not wanted. Ask the LEO if you can leave. (The answer will be yes; otherwise, it's not trespass.)

I have used my CHL once for buying a gun and it did not save much time. But, if the phones, electricity or instant check center is down, you can still make the purchace if you have a CHL. I could see that being handy in some situations.
Also in an emergency situation where you are evacuating such as with Rita and Katrina, if you have contact with a Peace Officer, I think a CHL would be a very nice thing to have. I don't want him deciding if I am "traveling" or not, I want to be "prequalified"

Propellerhead, you wouldn't happen to be affiliated with a certain next generation fighter plane as I am, would you?
I started a thread about this a while back because the online "handbook" specifically states that even CHL holders cannot carry or have their weapon present in their vehicle. Even though its not "proper wording", I still don't have the cojones to carry on the premesis. Besides, those gaurds have more firepower than I do, but I don't really trust their aim

Yes, the last manned fighter aircraft. I'm in one of the cubicle farms in Bldg 5. I have never seen the company rent-a-cops do vehicle searches but I'm not gonna chance it. I like working there.

Charles, thanks for setting me straight on verbal warnings.
Propellerhead: My nephew and his wife both work at the same place you do. They're both engineers: Him - electrical; her - mechanical....now that's a household!
