Indiana. East Chicago* and Hammond, Indiana, are literally across the street from the City of Chicago (like Texarkana).
I could be wrong; but as far as I know, Indiana has the same ammo qualifications as Texas.
Indiana used to have a much lower cigarette tax than Illinois (on the order of $1 per pack). Cigarette running was a local sport back in the day. The Illinois cops didn't need much of a pretext to stop a vehicle with Illinois plates returning from Indiana.
Does everyone know what a cigarette boat is?

1,000 HP, 100 MPH. Make sure your dentures are glued down tight.
*East Chicago is a city in Indiana. Michigan City is also a city in Indiana. North Chicago, West Chicago, and Chicago Heights are cities in Illinois. South Chicago is a neighborhood in the City of Chicago. Anyone who confuses South Chicago with the South Side of Chicago is performing an auto-proctoscopy.

... I reccommend ... have dinner, get drunk and be home, before the Zombie Hours !

unlike texas where you have to drive for days to cross the state line you can get into Indiana, Missouri, Wisconsin in just a short drive. I am originally from Illinois, not Chicago but a place called East St. Louis. Last time I was through that town it looks like a war zone. Any how, they probably just take a short drive. Guns aren't outlawed in all cities, by the way, even if they don't cross state lines I am sure there are gun stores in other Illinois towns. My oldest brother still lives in Illinois just outside of belleville and he has guns and ammo too.

You're welcome, but I didn't take them.
That city will bring tears to your eyes in more ways than one. Why does it have to be so screwed up, and so far from being straightened out?

Well, on the bright side, they seem to be doing better than Juarez, Mex.

BobCat wrote:...and I bet you will not find random violence directed at you. Most of the shootings / stabbings / beatings / killings in cities are gang related. As a non-gang-member you are not a target unless you're dressed flashy, in the wrong neighborhood at the wrong time of day, or reply with unwise words to rude comments from gangsta wanna-be yutes.
.
The problem with that is if you are unknowingly walking near a thug, accidentally driving near a a rival gangstas house (or family members) or business.. they don't care if you happen to be in the way and are innocent. You are collateral damage. You may not have been the target, but dead just the same.

Sure, anything can happen. People sleeping in their own beds are shot or killed by drunk drivers.
But two point something million people in Chicago get through each day without being shot. The neighborhoods where this kind of violence is rampant are known, and no one goes there without a compelling reason. The thugs who commit it stay on their home turf most of the time.
No place is completely safe; but at the same time, visitors to downtown Chicago are not being mowed down in gang turf wars.

I suppose growing up in a high crime city may have tainted my perspective, but I could say "Sure, anything can happen. People sleeping in their own beds are shot or killed by drunk drivers. But two point something million people in Chicago get through each day without being shot."....so why bother carrying? Why bother trying to get the Chicago gun ban overturned?

Is the SCOTUS ruling coming tomorrow? I didn't know that.

No prob, I thought I was having a rational retort. Simply that the same argument you posed here is also used by anti-gunners also. Again, I grew up in a high crime city, and can tell you that crime does not stay locked into the inner city and not affect the innocent. It can and does.

Yes, it does.
But there is no single answer. Laws obviously don't work. The "war on drugs," "war on crime," and "war on poverty" all failed to some degree. Carrying a handgun does not make a person bulletproof. The death penalty makes no demonstrable difference.
We just take our chances sometimes.

Check out the response after the Supreme Court lifted Chicago's 28-year handgun ban:
City Hall could limit number of guns allowed in a home
