If you told me you'd already bought it, I'd pass up this topic without a word, but since you're asking opinions, I'll say that I wouldn't buy anybody I cared about anything but a S&W or Ruger revolver. For me, cheap doesn't enter the equation. Sorry, but that's my opinion. Good luck.

I have shot and/or owned a Taurus m85 ultralite(ported), S&W 442, and Ruger LCR. My wife also had a Taurus 817 that she wishes we never sold. Of the three 5 shot revolvers I have shot, the Taurus had the least amount of recoil, primarily because it's ported. The Ruger had the strongest recoil. I would not buy the LCR my wife because even with ball ammo the recoil from this 13oz pocket rocket was tough enough that I knew she would not shoot it. I am still looking at getting her a revolver to carry. I feel that the S&W 442 is going to be the one I get. My uncle owns a gun shop and has not had any issues with the Taurus snubbies, but I continue to hear from others about QC issues with them. So I have not decided what I'm going to do, but I'm continuing to research.

My wife carries a S&W 642 in her purse. I don't like that method of carry, but it is better than leaving it at home.

She doesn't like shooting +P rounds out of it too well but does it on occassion. Shooting normal 38's is no problem for her at the range. It isn't her favorite gun, she prefers shooting her G19 or GP100 but for daily carry that is what works for her.

I don't have much knowledge other than internet info on the Taurus 85, so I am not going to say anything good or bad about them. You might just have your wife shoot some of the smaller snub nosed guns and see what she thinks.

There are always gonna be people who say the Taurus/KelTec/etc are not good enough, spend $$$ and get a S&W/Sig/H&K/etc.

I've had a Taurus 85ch for about five years and it works fine. The steel frame .38 is hard to screw up, and they have been building them as long as I remember. A friend had a stainless 85 and used it as his off-duty gun all the time.

i just picked up the Ruger LCP at Bud's gun shop for 398.00 shipped free. My friend's wife just got one and i liked the feel. Light and durable.......otherwise S&W is the only other revolver id trust my life to..........

We have a Taurus 1911, and it is a good gun - well made and accurate. I also have a Keltec. It's a dog.

Hey TAM,
Have you ever had any reliability issues with your PT1911? I am wanting a good quality 1911, but cannot justify shelling out $800-$1200, on a Springer or Kimber. I really do not want to get one of the Phillipine made guns by Armscor Group.
