It's called being respectful and polite. I'm guilty of it as well.
Ahhh yup. Count me in as well.
I say "thanks you", to thank them for all the times they didn't catch me, like a couple minutes earlier when I was doing 20mph faster, and for that reflective tape they have on their car that helped me shave another 10mph or so off the ticketed speed. :woohoo

I am of the opinion that:

Every $400 dollars in tickets i avoid (so 2 tickets) is another weapon i can buy. Less tickets = more guns!

With that logic, I could buy a new gun every couple of days. :thewave

My wife may not like it though............... :nono:

The last and only time I was ticketed was before I got my CHL.

I came up on my turn before I realized it and was going too fast to make it and for some reason, without thinking, I turned anyway and ended up going onto the wrong side of the road... While a cop was sitting in the turn lane of the road I was getting on.

I pulled into the gas station immediately and just waited for him. I think he may have called backup or something because he didn't come to my window until another police car showed up.

I'm glad I had the option to take defensive driving to get the charges dropped.

I ended up getting a warrant letter in the mail several weeks later because they forgot to enter it into the computer when I took care of it. After they pulled the file and saw it was all taken care of, I got several apologies in a row.

After I got my CHL, the only official interaction I've had with a police officer was when someone pulled out in front of me and totaled my car.

Counting tickets you DIDN'T get, is like counting "saved" jobs! "rlol"

You got room for one more in that club? :rolll

I'm so mad about it...but it's my fault, so my anger is with myself. LEO was just doing his job.

I'm curious...am I the only one who says "Thank you!" when I get a ticket? Why am I thanking him for a $200 fine?!? :smilelol5:
You probably weren't thanking him for the fine, but rather for the great service.:

I've had one ticket in the last 30 or so years and it was a fluke. But no I don't thank them for giving me a ticket. My cop buddies just hang their badge out the window when they get pulled over, so no, I'm not gonna thank them for giving me a ticket.

That generally works for Fire and EMS as well, though the ones I know "accidentally" display their credentials as they're "trying to find" their TDL.

Doesn't really bother me, every job has its perks.

Yeah, I'd really love a job where I can break the law and get away with it! :thumbs2:

Most major cities and even DPS are still hiring! Every job needs a few perks. My favorite joke used to be that I not only did not get ticketed for driving 100 mph on loop 410, but I got paid for it.

I don't really have a problem with them having the perks because I know they're paid chicken feed. My point was simply that I see no need to thank them for giving me a ticket. And I never say sir to them or anyone else that has not earned my respect, like a war veteran has for example.

I say "sir" or "ma'm" simply because it's the polite thing to do. If they carry themselves in a way unbecoming their job, I'll take it up with a supervisor - but someone doing the job of a police officer doesn't have to "earn" my respect. And I've not seen an officer stick a badge out a window - that's usually an outstanding way of getting a ticket. As they pull ID, the badge shows, it's then up to the officer whether to show "professional courtesy"....it is NOT a "given" that it's gonna happen.
Someone's been listening to way too many "insiders" that don't really have a clue. I can name 3 muni's in the SA area that flippin' a badge like that will not only GUARANTEE you a ticket - but will have YOUR chief getting a call from THEIR chief.

That's a wonderful place you live in, from what I've seen, it's hard to believe. As far as "sir". I say sir to guys all the time but it's usually the ones that I know don't expect it. I think it was usually a little more discreet than just hanging the badge out the window but not much.

Cops are war veterans. They just fight the community's enemies a few at a time instead of platoons and battalions.

If you doubt that, ride along with a metro PD unit in any city for a week.

Then try to imagine what it would be like to do that week 1,300 times over a 25 year career.
