Congratulations - Finally! Keep us up to date on what you hear back.
Dittos, and please do let us know what you hear back. It's no secret that the CHL unit is overworked and poorly managed, but your story is one of almost criminal negligence.

I really want to hear how it all shakes out.

Wow...just finished reading your entire thread.....truly amazing gandalf23!
At several points along the way...it seemed as if you got things going ahead- after your phone visits....but almost one step forward and two back.
Don't think I've ever heard of such a delay and further delay. Think def. in this case, objective letters of fact to your Rep. and DPS are probably in order.....

In any event...a belated congrats...be safe and carry well.

The "Waiting Room"

Post by Big Mike 1939 »

From an outsider, all I have to say is that Texas is drowning in bureaucratic nonsense. In Washington, when I applied, I went to the local PD, where I filled out the form, was fingerprinted, paid my $60 and left. 60 days later I received a letter that I could come in and pick up my permit. Everything was done by my local PD and my background check by the FBI. No bureaucrats involved!! The good news and bad news is that there is no requirement for classes or testing. That leaves a lot of people out there with guns on their hips and don't know what to do with them!

This IS a horror story and I am glad it did resolve with your persistence.

I guess like we are responsible for our indivdual safety, we may need to stay actively involved in our state bureaucracy.

Carry safe.

And I thought this was just another CHL horror story!

I've never heard of a worse story in the ten or so years of Texas CHL Austin office bloopers!!!

I feel for you my friend...

Seems to me it is getting worse...When the program started, those of us first in line, seemed to have really helped the office get a few things ironed out, and that both sides of the counter seemd very grateful to work those issues to streamline and get things done to where everyone was happy with the results...

And then for some reason the original people working there transfered or left for other reasons, and the people coming in to replace them started going a little low rent on us...

There are some there today that I believe are doing a good job, but for the most part it appears to be getting bogged down in excuses and other silly-ness...

Keeping track of the trends, and how things are going for everyone else sure does help me make sure I keep on top of it next time I renew...
