I don't know the fine points of Florida statutes, but ancient common law says that reckless killing is manslaughter. That is at least what happened here.

In addition to all of the above being "wrong" with this story, how about this:
A reporter tried to interview students and faculty at Ida Baker’s home football game Friday night, but was asked to leave by Lee schools Superintendent James Browder.
Hooray for Mr. Browder. Showing up at a HS football game to ask 14-year-olds what they think about a classmate being killed is quite the example of journalistic excellence.

Most fatal gun "accidents" are really homicide or suicide.

He was able to bond out earlier this week, subject to typical bond conditions: nighttime curfew, cannot possess firearms.

Found guilty of manslaughter Jan. 20 in a jury trial. Sentencing in March.
