Big 5 sports has the 91/30 on for $79.95 this week. Another for $99. I think the SKS is either $179 or $199. I can't recall everything, but a bunch of rifles in cosmoline.
Personally, I'm not going to miss the Stoeger Condor O/U shotgun this time @ $299.
When will Cabela's have Mosins on Sale for $99 again?

Hey don't dis the HiPoint ;) My Stallard JS-9 has 1400 rounds through it, that I know of. Its running perfect. The thing is weighs a ton so no recoil and as long as I keep it clean I have no jams. Besides is I run out of ammo I can always use it as a club! The trouble with that is that by the time you run some HD ammo through it to see if it cycles okay, it'll be broken already...
Back to the rifle question... I have a MN and I woudl not use it for HD:
1. To long
2. Hard to aim in high stress situations
3. The action is slow to cycle another round
4. Its going to be a REALLY big bang in confined spaces
5. Too much penetration
Save up just a little extra and get a 12 guage. Academy routinley carries a 12 guage, forget the manufacturer fr $169.00 new...

The shotgun mentioned above is a Maverick(made by Mossberg I believe). A good pump gun for the money. I have one and I got it for 156.00.

They also carry the H&R Pardner. It's the Rem 870 clone. It's heavier though. 18.5" barrel. It's a substantial weapon, I prefer it over my Maverick for prolonged shooting. The controls on it are more natural also. The Maverick has the safety at the front of trigger guard. Kinda poorly designed.cbucher wrote:The shotgun mentioned above is a Maverick(made by Mossberg I believe). A good pump gun for the money. I have one and I got it for 156.00.

There are probably better choices for a HD gun; the MN would be quite tricky to maneuver in confined spaces, most likely a deafening muzzle report and the risk of a shallow ricochet is very high if you (or he) really do shoot low into the concrete slab under the house.
I would also suggest that broadcasting the sound of a chambering rifle (or pump shotgun) is more likely detrimental than advantagous; you don't really want to loose the element of surprise, or give away your position - or risk a non-functional firearm through inadvert short-stroking. I would think that an intruder is likely already chambered and is likely to reply to your 'clack-clack!' with some noise of his own.
Instead of buying your friend a lifetime's supply of ammo, why not help him buy something more realistic in terms of it's usefulness (pump shotgun, or used semi-auto), and a couple of boxes of ammo to go with it ?
