They ask celebrities to come and speak to congress on issues in order to get the news media, and the citizens who watch the news, talking about a subject. They did not have him out because they expected to learn something from his 1 day of experience as a farm worker.
Looks like it worked quite well for them this time.

My dad made the point: The legislation proposed for farm workers to to allow citizenship for farm workers as long as they remain in the farm industry. So you can be a citizen....as long as you don't better yourself or ever progress beyond farm labor? How is this not equivalent to slavery or indentured servitude?
