It may be a good thing that she didn't though, with the plate number I could have had his address in about 5 minutes. That may not have ended so well.
Here's an FYI for evading anyone who approaches in a vehicle:

Most bad guys won't go more than about 75 feet from their vehicles on a public street, and almost never out of sight under these circumstances, for a crime where they intend to forcibly put the victim in the vehicle.

A successful tactic is to create distance as quickly as possible in a place the vehicle can't go. In a neighborhood, that would mean running between houses at 90 degrees to the street and through backyards (unless fencing prevents this).

If pursued, make lots of noise: "Help! Get away from me! Call the Police - I don't know him!"

It's pretty difficult to get even a young child who's kicking, biting, and screaming dragged out of back yards and back to a car without an excellent chance that someone will recognize what's going on and intervene.

I know. I feel the same way. Trouble is I also have an older daughter, who among other things has serious impulse control issues. Fact is, I can't trust her enough to leave it alone. Therefore it needs to be locked up when I"m not around.

Sometimes that's the only alternative, albeit an unattractive one.

Chas.

Well, there is *another* alternative, besides leaving a loaded gun lying around, unsecured, with a troubled teenager in the house.

Mom could have gun securely attached to her belt.

I'm just sayin'...

I know, I know, women and the whole self-defense subject. Hence my :banghead: graphic. My wife still doesn't have her CHL.

And that doesn't help the 10 year old when Mom's not home. Sometimes it's just not possible to have a gun available for a kid.

I have fixed some of that. There is now a keyed lock on the bedroom door that will be locked when Mom is away. The 10 year old will not be home alone probably until she gets married and moves out, which if I have any thing to say about it won't be until she is about 40. Mom now wants her own gun. She can shoot mine but is not comfortable with it. I'm seeing a Ruger LCR in my very near future. We have no worries at all about the older one trying to mess with the gun when we are around.

Mom might like the opportunity to handle and fire so many handguns tomorrow at our get-together to see what she likes! Some are bringing .22s the 10yr old might like as well.
DFW get-together TOMORROW (Sat) @ Elm Fork - See you there!

I also found out more details since posting originally. When she took of on the scooter he was right behind her in very short order. She wasn't riding in the middle of the street but off to the side so he could have passed her if he wanted to. That leaves no doubt in my mind as to what his intentions were.

Tomorrow we will go through the painful process of looking at photos of known sex offenders. My wife is not too thrilled about it but I told her it must be done. I will not rest until this person is found and stopped.

I'll talk to her and see. We have a wedding to attend at 5:00, we may be able to squeeze it in. I'll reply to the other discussion if we will be there.
