Howdy,
Specifications for contract require anodized steel body, which PMAGs don't, by definition have. They are compatible. That said, they are very high quality and exceed mil spec in just about every strength, durability, and reliabillty test to which they have been put. Do currently serving members of the U.S. Armed Forces use them? Yes! But they aren't mil spec.

p-Mags are going to start to be issued here at some point. A few months ago the military did a study on getting better and lighter gear for the troops. P-Mags already have a NSN number. If you're paying 30 bucks for a P-Mag you're getting ripped off. They are easily found in the 10 to 15 dollar range.

I use the pmags simply because of the plastic cover, it takes the load off of the lips and keeps junk out. I have a dozen or so GI mags but they are TEOTWAWKI mags. I sold my ar's and got a SCAR and the pmags seem to work a little better in it. As far as the $1200 1911 goes, I did the same with my first carry piece because it had what I wanted and was new. Kimber Ultra CDP with CT grips. I think it was $1250 + Tax. Very reliable and disappears into an IWB.

I have both. About 1/3rd of my mag stash is P-mags. Funny thing is, when I go to the range, I generally grab the USGI mags.
