Just like, eating out... support your favorite Mom & Pops, cafes, restaurants.
Chain store restaurant's food... is, well.... chain food !
Same for gun related items ... I like Cabelas, Academy, etc. but prefer Guns Galore, local gun shops and shooting ranges.

The closest shop "Texas Guns" is so overpriced it's not funny. Plus their staff is clueless.

"Alamo Tactical" has decided to be primarily a web based store with a small storefront. Very little actually in stock. "We'll order it for you".. Why?

Hill Country Tactical apparently has a storefront. No hours or directions on their website. Emailed them. Sorry closed this weekend. Going to be at the gun show. How about going there to buy my product.

Really? And pay the entry fee to get stuff from you? Ended up ordering online and getting it. Sorry guys. I'd love to buy local, but you're not making it easy. BTW Alamo Tactical and Hill Country guns are 40 minutes away, and I don't mind driving to a "local" store.

+1 for black gold in Houston. Zero pressure and you can hold every gun he has in order to make a decision. Small shop, but he's fair and he has a lot of guns. My money goes to him. It's a relationship, not a bottom dollar price. Just my $.02

I disagree. I have never bought a gun from a local mom & pop store. Times change, things evolve. It's a fact of life. The firearm business has evolved. It's sad, but it's a reality and there's little to nothing we can do.

I do make every effort to patronize my local gun store, unfortunately with the current certainty of imminent layoff, I'm unable to support them except for the occasional modest purchase. I believe them to be reasonable in price on weapons (I have seen lower prices, but am willing to bet they will work with me if needed). Their service is what impresses me. Every time I walk in I am greeted, even though I am not a power buyer. They answer my questions realistically and without any attitude. I sold them one pistol and bought my Mosin there with part of the proceeds. I know they will sell the pistol for more than I paid, but I considered it an entirely fair/equitable transaction for all parties. They are in business to make money, after all. Just like everywhere else, you have to decide what is best for the particular purchase you are trying to make, and the kind of people you are willing to deal with.

When the wife and I go out tooling around on the Harley, we only stop at mom and pop eateries, locally owned and such. We check out the local life. Support the local business and economies. Met some really great people doing that....

I went by local shop which I like alot , like the people there too, always a plus.... I`ll go by just to window shop and just to chat with the nice folks at times too.
Anywho , they had some glocks on sale ( compacts ) with the RTF finish for $499 , I know I can probably get it alittle cheaper , bit I didnt buy yet ( I was SO tempted to get a new toy though ). I need an early Christmas present too....

I have no problem buying locally and I do try to do that, but when the price is dramatically different, no way. Same with ammo-- if I'm buying a box or two of ammo I don't mind paying a little premium, but if I need several thousand rounds of ammo for a weekend shoot, I'm buying wherever it's cheaper. I do shoot quite a bit so I shop around for the best deals. Paying a hazmat charge on 20,000 primers isn't much of a deterrent to buying from Powder Valley or Graf's.

I do similarly, I buy locally when I can; and Made in Texas products when I can.

Now I do try to get them on sale, like their Black Friday sale 20% off everything ordered
