Interesting indeed. It seems Dr. Holda and his wife have made a complete about face. They are taking the CHL class this coming Saturday.

As a 55 year old with a couple degrees, and soon to be returning to college student who previously was on staff at two different colleges in Houston, and also a CHL, I must say I have a new respect for Bill Holda.

Wow. Dr. Holda has my newfound respect. It is rare to find an Academician that is willing to hear the other side of an issue that they are already convinced they are knowledgeable about.

Amazing, and wonderful to hear!
Let's hope he becomes a positive role model for other antis to follow.

A Day At the Range ?
Taking A CHL Class ?
Damage control.....
Surely the President of a college that has a premier law enforecement academy and an excellent firearm instruction facility with instructors has had the prior opportunity to handle and shoot firearms during his tenure there.

Kudos to Dr. Holda. It would have been one thing to step forward and try to learn himself. It takes the matter to a whole new level (at least for me) when he immediately includes his wife. I would still have a reservation if he had gone alone that it was a "for show only" move. With his wife along, it seems to become a much more sincere gesture.
It would be interesting to hear what he has to say after the CHL class. It might be even more interesting to find out if he elects to pursue getting his CHL or if his wife does.
I have to say that I'm shocked. I was a teacher and have had more than my share of heated discussions with Liberal academics. I haven't found a single one willing to back down from their distorted positions, even when their own words could be used to demonstrate how conflicted their logic was. Dr. Holda must be a very special kind of a guy.

I am reserving judgment about this turnaround. I'm torn, though. I believe if this was a PR stunt, he would have made a bigger deal about training with LEOs and getting his CHL. The fact that he did it with a blogger and didn't get much press makes me wonder if he's serious, or if he's scared of what his liberal friends might think of him now.
Hopefully, he's serious, and his conversion real. That would be one more in the ranks, and a college president to boot.

Perhaps it's just the grizzled old trial lawyer coming out in me, but here are the facts as I see them: He lied, got caught, was inundated with email blasting him about lying, sent out a canned, self-serving email adopting Brady Campaign lies, and now he's supposedly taking a CHL class. I don't buy it; it's damage control in the face of very bad PR. I think he's trying to save his job and reputation.
I hope I'm wrong, but I've seen plenty of witnesses change their stories when caught in a lie.
Chas.

I personally do not care what his reasoning is. On the face of it, it appears to be a victory for RKBA advocates in Texas. And that is what the public will see if they notice in the first place.

I think Charles has him pegged.
He may complete the course and get his photo taken. He may even send in his paperwork and get his card.
But he will never carry regularly, nor advocate campus carry.
Hide and watch

Great idea. Charles, you should publicize his conversion as an update to your story. That way he's held publicly accountable for his conversion.

While I had hoped that he was genuine, I understand the reasoning if he is truly just doing damage control
Let's look at it from another angle. We have, at least for the moment, one less Liberal spouting downright lies about gun ownership in public. Given what has happened to him, what impact might there be on other Liberals who might want to mouth off in a similar fashion? Does his public situation buy the pro-gun community any period of silence or more muted rhetoric from other gun haters?
