Actually, this incident has started me thinking more about seating position in a restaurant, including Denny's. May have to start being more pushy about where we're seated.

If you're seated with your back to the entrance, you may be among the last to know what's going on around you. Actually, I prefer to have my back to a wall that faces both the entrance and the kitchen...and Mrs Oldgringo accepts that.

Good access to an emergency exit could be good, as well.

I can't see how they would know to ask for my gun, people at church only know I'm wearing 3 or 4 because they know me, but they can't tell where they are worn.

If they are asking for wallets watches and rings, that's what I'll provide, my money clip watch and ring (probably not wallet ,,, They want money, not my AARP discount card and allergy information card.)

Separate wallets for credit cards etc is a good thing

This is one thing I've just accepted; harm will befall all those close to me if I have to pull the trigger. Bullets are one thing, but the muzzle blast from a 2" snub doesn't discriminate at all. OTOH, bleeding ears are a lot better than the other things likely to bleed if the BGs get their chance.

For those who hesitate and hold back when they have the opportunity, offenders who commit violent robbery never hesitate to kill for no reason. They would kill you just so you do not id them, even when they are hiding their faces.

exactly. Im not much for waiting around and hoping they don't decide to hurt or kill someone.

if someone innocent got killed (even if I didn't know them) and I was armed and had the opportunity and didn't take it....I dont think that would sit well with me. hopefully I'll never have to find out.

The reverse is equally true. If you opened fire on the robbers and an innocent bystander was killed in the crossfire, would you feel good about that? No matter what you do the second guessing will go on forever - unless you are lucky enough to take out all three with no other casualties. That's why I threw out all the questions you'd need to answer before you draw. No situation is ever black and white.

These are high consequence final decisions with no guarantees no matter which choice you make, and unless innocents are being actively attacked, you almost certainly won't have enough information to make a really well informed decision about the BG's intentions and the actual level of danger he poses.

If you act (or don't act) and things don't go well, you'll find yourself with many haunting regrets and will always wonder what would have happened if you made the other choice - but you'll never know for sure.

Things would be so much easier if only there was a "do over" button - but there isn't. We own what we do, regardless of our intentions, and what we decide in microseconds affects a lifetime for both us and those around us.
