and I love the comment there
1. Jeff Morelock November 30th, 2010 12:52 pm :
As a former SWAT officer and a current NRA Certified Firearms Instructor, I am a little confused as to why a police officer would need additional training to “discern between aggressors and individuals acting in self-defense”. Its called police work.
Hiring more cops is not a reason or excuse to prevent students with concealed weapons permits to carry on campus either unless you hire enough for every student to carry a concealed police officer, it is not a solution.

From the Fox Story...
"Officers are trained to take out the person that's shooting, no matter who it is. If you have a gun, you're going out," says TSU Police Chief Ralph Meyer.
I don't think this would make me feel very safe if I was on campus...

Fox news at 9 in Austin, myfoxaustin.com was great,
quite a few minutes, didn't time it, but with a Reporter on campus at UT interviewing both John Woods (and his silly "CHLs will all be committing suicide if we let them on campus" argument, maybe he means criminal justice professors who are also CHL and firearms instructors?) along with interviewing Scott Lewis, "nope, they don't in churches, banks, restaurants, shopping centers, the State Capitol, etc etc etc."
Really good segment

I really wanted to address that comment in the debate, but the reporter started with Woods, so I had to spend what little time I was allotted rebutting his arguments.

I'd rather go out knowing that I tried to help others than not do anything at all.[/quote]
More to the point, somebody's got to be able to do something while the cops are busy shooting each other for having guns.

I forget which
Waco stations I notified but I can only watch so many channels at once

Yeah, about that chief
I still like the reply to TSU's Chief that wants to shoot CHLs (I'm guessing he'll shoot people cowering under a desk holding scissors defensively now, or a knife, or a pistol)...
(when someone is walking through your classroom with an AK-47 shooting each student in the head one by one, please keep ballpoint pens holstered, so the police do not think you are a bad guy, just remain under your desk, SOMEONE will be with you shortly, thank you for your patience) perhaps the police dept capt and chief should run over to the Hines building for additional courses, oh wait, some professor might be armed.
As a former SWAT officer and a current NRA Certified Firearms Instructor, I am a little confused as to why a police officer would need additional training to “discern between aggressors and individuals acting in self-defense”. Its called police work.

===============
As a side note, did you know
at TSU athletic events, I've read where
they disarm off-duty certified police officers?
One posted that he had to return to his car to store his gun, they wouldn't let him in even after showing his badge and TECLOSE certification and everything.
They are afraid a fellow officer might go crazy I guess.
