The Shot Show is in 2 1/2 weeks, time for the companies to drop some hints then show them all at the show. I cannot wait to see what is new, we all know that once they announce new firearms it takes 8 months to actually get one. I am most interested in the new Sig P290, the first one we get will have my name on it. I expect them to be a huge hit and to start replacing some of the 380's that people carry.

Michael Bane spilled the news about the new Ruger Gunsite Scout Rifle.
It is a .308 bolt action rifle tailored to meet Jeff Cooper's thoughts regarding a lightweight general purpose scout rifle.

Ruger Press release found here:

Since it is a press release, intended to be public, I assume it is OK to quote a paragraph under fair use doctrine:
Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. (NYSE: RGR) is proud to announce the Ruger® Gunsite Scout Rifle, the ideal “fighting carbine” in .308 Winchester that is a credible rendition of Col. Jeff Cooper’s Scout Rifle concept. Cooper called for a relatively lightweight, hard hitting, do-all rifle that in the hands of an accomplished shooter was able to place accurate, sustained fire out to long ranges, yet was quick-handling and light enough for all-day carry.

The Gunsite Scout has been out there in the open for some time. Not a very well-kept secret...if this is in fact tomorrow's secret.
If this is Ruger's clandestine announcement, they need to get a new VP of Marketing. Seriously.

You'll see on page one that there was some discussion about this specific rifle. I just can't see this being it as there is still a splash screen on the Ruger homepage saying there will be an announcement on 1/3, yet there is a product page for the 77-GS on the same site.
Who knows...maybe it is some weird kind of marketing.
I just know I want the 77-GS...

It is either a 1911 or a pocket 9mm. I can't think of anything else they would make that I MUST have right now. Unless it is an LCR in .22, or a return of the .22 SP-101.

According to Tom Gresham the new rifle is the Gunsite scout rifle. Ruger already announced this a while back via their spam, someone in their marketing department needs to be beaten with a clue stick.

I will jump on the 1911 bandwagon.

It seems like everyone else is on the band wagon and Ruger is missing their piece of the pie.
This^^^, my thoughts as well.

A 1911 or pocket 9 makes sense so the company doesn't have to make evil high capacity magazines.

Unless they are going to sell for under $200 I don't really care. Since MSRP is over $400 I really, really don't care.

Kind of.
Length (OAL and LOP) looks OK.
Rails look good for forward mounted glass or electronic sight.
At seven pounds unloaded, and without a scope, sling or bipod, it's pushing weight. Ruger should sign it up for the 2011 weight loss thread here.
There's no attachment point for a Ching sling, nor a CW sling.
Flash hider? OK, I guess, if it works well without hurting accuracy.
That magazine is really tall, especially for a ten round magazine. It should be shorter to improve the friendliness of the rifle, and it should come with a five round flush mount magazine.
Price? Well, it's a Ruger so we'll have to wait and see what the street price is.

OK, so I was right! I actually had the pocket 9 listed first in my post, but switched the 1911 to the front because I'm more of a 1911 guy myself, but I truly believed it would be the pocket 9.
I'm not sure if I MUST have one though. I'll have to see how it stacks up to the SR9c first.

Kinda disappointed. Thought it would be...well not so...Whats the word I am looking for??? EXPENSIVE. For over $400.00 I expect to see something different.
