Do the hobby shops still sell chemicals, I remember when I was 12 buying salt peter, sulpher and carbon at the local hobby shop and making gun powder. It was terrible stuff, no where near as good as the stuff we got by unrolling perfectly good firecrackers.

I bought the sulfur and potassium nitrate at our local grocery store! When we were really hard up we'd collect sulfur along the RR tracks. I am old as dirt (almost) and can't remember where my glasses are most of the time, but I remember a box of salt peter cost 11cents. I burned my hand lighting a tin foil pouch of homemade powder about like the one depicted. Probably shoud have kept that to myself, huh?
