I've been lucky enough to have never had a fraudulent CC transaction in 30 years.

I AM knocking on some wood

My dad has managed to have two checks, years apart from each other, stolen out of the mailbox and washed and altered for a much higher amount.

That may be true, but the difference is that fraudulent Credit charges go against your credit account, whereas fraudulent DEBIT charges come out of your checking account. Most banks (as far as I know) will reimburse your checking account fairly quickly, but in the meantime, you're bouncing checks, or having valid debit transactions denied.

I did not read every every word of this thread.

!!! Every one SHOULD ONLY use a cc online !!! Never your debit

The cc is easy to fix and does not freeze your cash while it's resolved.

I have a dedicated cc that is only used online, makes it quick and easy to see theses charges.

RPB,

Not to derail the thread into a fuel cost thread, but what in the world did you put $2.66 worth of gas in? That's about how much it cost to fill up a coffee can to start the burn pile with.

On budsgunshop.com, this warning drops down from the top:

“Due to multiple reports of fraud, we have shut down credit card payments for the weekend, while we investigate this issue further. All other payment options remain available. ACH payments will receive 3% cash discount price.”

EDIT - Buds has sent an email to customers affected.
