Windows is pretty secure if you don't download untrusted applications, random screensavers, pornography, pirated music/movies/software, etc. It's even safer if you use a browser that blocks unnecessary scripts and FLASHy junk.
I run a firewall and block scripts for most sites, and I have far fewer problems than friends and coworkers who think they practice safe surfing because they use antivirus software.

Worse yet, if they are not reliable when the website in question is harmless, then how can you trust them to know for sure when a website is definitely harmful?
I apologize for coming off as grumpy about it, but I make my living by building and hosting websites. When Norton's software does this, it makes my life unnecessarily harder. I'm a small business. They (Symantec which owns Norton) are a giant corporation. It is difficult for a small business like mine, which has limited resources, to deal with a huge company like Norton that has massive resources — when the company with the massive resources is the one that is producing a substandard product which makes the life of the little guy more difficult.

I understand where your coming from but...
If we all lived by your logic here, then we should always know who the bad guy is and isn't right? We shouldn't even have to have a gun to protect us because when we see the bad guy we will know and can run away...
I'm just sayin, It's better to be cautious then not to, When a red flag pops up for me I try to act appropriately.

Trying not to get off-topic too much, but I can't resist:
Windows is almost bullet proof if you use a program like Windows SteadyState (free by Microsoft), or DeepFreeze (commercial). It loads Windows into a virtual environment so that any changes to the system are wiped when you shut down the computer.
