It's all Greek to me.
Various purposes

Some are partry places, some are honor society type deals, some are service organizations

Since 1945, the fraternity has undertaken a National Social Action Program to meet the needs of African Americans in the areas of health, housing, civil rights, and education.
Apparently the two gang bangers didn't feel welcome among people with more education when they were asked to leave earlier.

Pretty sure that the Frat House had a "no-guns" policy as many do, so it's still a fish-in-a-barrel shooting of students in a gun-free zone.

The two charged were 22 and 19 years old. No indication on the altercation that caused them to leave and get a weapon.

Since they left and came back with a weapon, would this be considered premeditated murder Sounds like they are going to spend a rather long time on the inside looking outside and mulling their actions.

The incident in Ohio involved two men, neither of whom were eligible to obtain a CHL (one is only 19, and the other was released from prison less than two years ago), opening fire on a house party at a home where five fraternity members live (not an actual frat house). The house is in such a bad part of town that, according to CNN, it’s common practice in that neighborhood for hosts of house parties (including the party at which the incident occurred) to frisk guests for weapons when they enter. One of the two men was thrown out of the party because of an altercation, so both men went and retrieved weapons, returned, and indiscriminately opened fire on the house, killing one person and wounding 11 others. Neither of the shooters was a college student.

Different vibes & emphases, I guess. When I was in college, many of my friends where in Chi Phi. I got a first-hand look at the pros & cons and decided it wasn't for me*. As far as I know, nobody ever had any regrets about joining, though.

*Not for anything they did or didn't do, it was purely because I figured three "pledges" (God, a hypothetical Wife & Kids, and Country) was enough.
