...in the OP, mention was made of having "kept my Texas CHL as a non-resident permit"...don't think it works like that...one criteria for a Tx CHL is to be a legal Texas resident...to be safe, I'd check with them, now that you're a legal La. resident, and see if a different permit need be issued...at the very least, you're in violation because you no longer live at the address on your Texas CHL...gotta be a simple way to make it all legit and safe...

Texas will issue a CHL to a nonresident who meets all the other requirements. (411.173)
Moving doesn't invalidate a Texas CHL, even if the person crosses state lines, as long as they send the change of address form and pay the fee.
On the original question, I don't know Colorado law to say. Some states don't criminalize carrying an unloaded firearm. Some states, like Texas, don't differentiate between loaded and unloaded. As far as disassembly, Federal Law considers the frame the firearm whether or not it's assembled into a functional firearm (e.g. AR stripped lower) so it would depend if Colorado follows Federal guidelines or has their own definition for a firearm.
This will only hurt a little. What comes next, more so.

speed six, as Cobra Medic has stated, Texas now does allow non-resident permits. Either that or somebody messed up bad when I sent my new address in to Austin and they issued me a new CHL with a Louisiana address

...so you DID change your Texas CHL to a Texas non-resident CHL...with a correct address on it...that was the point of my post...

If I am not mistaken, you could have carried the weapon unconcealed and loaded on that private bus. BTW, I carried concealed and loaded on public buses in Colorado many times, not knowing I should have unloaded it. That's new to me.

Yes I did. I lived in Texas, had a Texas CHL with my then Texas address and then later moved to Louisiana and changed my address on my Texas CHL making that license a non-resident permit.speedsix wrote:...so you DID change your Texas CHL to a Texas non-resident CHL...with a correct address on it...that was the point of my post...
Sorry for the confusion

...never saw a Tx non-res permit...look the same? Is it marked non-resident or is the address the only clue?

It looks the same as a resident permit. The only difference is my address.

It might be better if Louisiana absorbs Texas and does something about the illegals LOL! Then again maybe it would be better if Texas absorbed Louisiana and cut off it's infected corrupted toe (New Orleans/Baton Rouge) LOL!!!!
