What time on the 26th? Where is Alpine?
It's been several years for me too, so looking forward to some good instruction from AndyC, I hear he is excellent!

Just a thought, If anyone else from the North of DFW, near or traveling through Denton, wants to car-pool let me know.

OK, so far it looks like there are 5 or 6 members (me included) who are up for next weekend 02/26 - add my wife to that number. Also, it looks like the general preference is for Alpine again. That suits me too.

My son just told me that he and his GF are driving to Mississippi to get some cats from her mom that weekend... ...too long a story to relate here. Anyway, they won't be there this time.

If the group gets too big, we should consider splitting it and using both of the skeet ranges at Alpine.

I may be able to come out. I haven't shot skeet in 20 years, but have often thought of trying it again. I will know for sure as the week progresses.

Don't worry about the 20 years. This will be my 3rd and my wife's 2nd skeet trip. None of us are any darn good, but we have a heck of a good time. About the only things missing are the beer and the dynamite.

Hey!

Super busy weekend for me, so I just saw this.

At this time, tentatively count me in, and it doesn't matter which Saturday. I may have something come up, but I'll try to schedule around.

Our last skeet meet was immensely fun and educational. I know that I have been looking forward to round two since before we wrapped up round one.

The previous statement was correct; I used a benelli supernova last time, and it functioned just fine. While a purpose-built skeet gun may add some to the ambiance, I would venture to say that unless you're overly competitive, any shotgun that complies with range policy, is safe and that you know how to operate should work just fine. Yes, a longer barrel would help with the longer shots, but if you don't have a long barrel, we certainly won't drive you from town wielding pointed sticks and or tactical rocks. :smilelol5:

I'm sure something can be arranged. ;-)

Alright, here's what we've got so far....

02/26 seems to be the favored date, which is this Saturday coming up. The time is 9 a.m. The place is Alpine Shooting Range (Google Maps Location).

Those who can be there are (in no particular order):
  • The Annoyed Man
  • The Annoyed Woman
  • AndyC
  • geekwagun
  • Right2Carry
  • baldeagle
  • Tregs (maybe)
  • mikeintexas
  • chasfm11
  • cbucher (maybe)
  • Ropin'

That's 11 people so far. That seems like a large enough group that we might want to split it into groups of 5 and 6 and see if we can't get both skeet ranges at Alpine at the same time. They are right next to one another, so we'll still be able to heckle each other and slander one another's upbringing.

Count on it taking most or all of the morning, possibly past noon a bit, but the time will actually pass quite quickly. Bring water and/or something to snack on for energy. There is a "pro shop" on site, and they do have vending machines. They do sell ammunition on site, but you will probably be better off price-wise buying from your usual sellers. Each round of skeet will consume a 25 round box of ammo in whatever caliber you shoot, and we will get in at least 3 rounds, possibly 4. It is customary to tip the guy who runs the launchers, so figure to bring along a small amount of cash.

The 10 day forecast at Weather.com shows local conditions on the 26th Partly Cloudy, high of 77°, a low of 53º, and a 10% chance of precipitation. In other words, it will be a lovely day. Dress accordingly. Bring cameras if you think of it so that we can make everyone else here jealous.

I'll send out a reminder PM to each of you which will include my personal contact information. I can accommodate two other shooters in my vehicle if anyone wants to ride with my wife and me. We live in Grapevine.

I'm really looking forward to this get together. We had such a great time the last time we did this.

Little far for me to drive, but sounds like a really fun get together. I love skeet.

I'm guessing no one invited Dick Cheney? ;-)

I and my wife would love to participate, but have obligation for this weekend.
Might be able to work around it though. What time would we be likely to finish?

Count on it taking all morning long, extending possibly a little bit past noon. The amount of time it will take individually depends on how many rounds of skeet you want to shoot. Three rounds will take us to about noon. Two rounds will get you out of there earlier. A fourth round might take another hour beyond noon, maybe less. It kind of depends on how many shooters actually show up, how long each person can stay, and whether or not we can split into two groups and use both ranges. But if you can make it for even part of the day, we'd love to have you. This is a really excellent opportunity to kind of get to know other members. There is as much socializing as there is shooting going on. It is pretty much gender neutral. My wife had really enjoyed the last outing, and that was using a borrowed 20 gauge pump gun donated by BrianSW99.

Why don't you pencil us in and I'll square it up with the missus.
