it was a very large hollow point round, capped with a magnum pistol primer and sealed with some type of red sealant.

dunno if there was anything under the primer (powder, etc) but they made one heck of a hole when they hit.
I guess we were ahead of the times in the sixties. As far as something under the primer, FFFFg comes to mind as a possibility.
This is of course all theoretical!

Think of the marketing you could have done!!

all I remember about these were that there were 20 in a box.. the rounds were packed in foam, and our Class 3 dealer brought them when he came calling..

'cept in .357
Interesting. They look almost like I imagined a 165 gr JHP .357 would look like with a primer inserted cup out! I guess they could have put the cupside in, leaving a little space in the cavity, Huh? :thumbs2:

Closing off the cavity with a BB would be a quite effective way of keeping fluid OUT of the cavity. I think it would work just like a FMJ round, at least until the BB got knocked out of the cavity.

Think about it. If it worked, SOMEBODY would be selling ammunition made that way.

I believe the Corbon ball collapses (or maybe it shatters?) and allows the hollow point to fill with fluid.
I still dont understand how the Hornady Critical Defense round works with the hollow point full of rubber, but every review on youtube makes it look like a really good round.
Wouldn't a piece of rubber in the hollow point cavity to the same thing?

The filling in the cavity on that bullet isn't solid rubber, but soft and acts like a fluid on impact. You're basically pre-filling the nose of the JHP with a flesh analog that gets the expansion going, even on impact with fabric. This solves the problem of lack of penetration when first impacting a fabric barrier that would fill the cavity prior to hitting soft flesh, impeding the bullet from expanding.
